Hi this is it as found and sat in my drive
Thread isnt fully up to speed with progress but this is it now almost finished but in use, just little jobs to do now.
I could have completely repainted it and made it look new but its going to be used so rather it was functional and not worried about chipping paint etc
Lol at those pics - if I recall it took 4 pages of people telling you to buy it now before you plucked up the courage. I bet you’re glad you did?

Haha yeah it did turn out ok in the end but I knew it would be a lot of work to get there and had to put other projects on the back burner but glad I did.
Its forums like this that help to keep stuff like this from the scrap man as if I didnt have it then thats where it was going my friend has no interest in machinery.
My workshop is full of equipment that most people would have ditched but I could see past the rust and damage its very rewarding to save something and give it new life and use.

What a beauty!
It looks really well. As i can see, it also has the foot brake option. It good for large quantity work, but because it also breaks the main motors electrical command line, and the operarir can easily step on it by mistake, this option is usually dismantled from these machines.

not easy to see in photos but I made raising blocks as spindle hieght too low for me and now not so easy to step on the brake ! VFD slows the motor quite well anywayWhat a beauty!

100mm higher so can get pallet truck under now if i need access to back etc, feels much better to use at this height

It's actually known as a gap "plug"... can't remember how I found this out, but I had to know what it was called in order to get a replacement one for my own gap bed lathe!

If I were you, I would make a lenghtened pedal for the brake. As you use VFD, the electic switch is not a deal anymore, and the brake.. mm i think i would just throw it away. Mine uses a VFD too.

@paradipiro can I ask a favour ? i was having a wierd vibration turns out the drive belts appear to be different lengths I tried looking through manual but my Hungarian is limited to google can I ask what length and size is specified ?

Of course: profile B, length is 1900mm. Buy paired belts, if possible. This length is fictional, measured (calculated) at the strenghtening cords.

Thanks really appreciate that, i thought i had a major issue as gearbox shaking only when I slackened off the drive to check box it became obvious belts different

Finally up and running 95% there , bought some T1 tool holders so made a rack for them and a chip guard as most ending up on the floor. Not pretty but functional and built to last.
Putting matched belts on and correct tension sorted out vibration so chuffed with that

Common problem with this machine (design flaw):
If you find that the switsh from hign speed to the low speed on the headstock is hard, the reason ois that the key on the main spindle is loose, and it crumpled up the material of the spindle.
This is why the fit becomes tight, so cannot change to the low speed range. This caused by rapid direction changes with big chucks applied. The machine's original is 125mm (5") in diameter, if you use this size, or you use a VFD to ramp down rather then reversing the machine to stop, you won't have this issue in the future.
Another one, is the oiling of the main bearings: check the oil pan on the top cover of the headstock, and clean it well, allign the tubes on the back and front. With the cover back on, rev up the machine for a little, and after stop, check if the two oil pan on the headstock received oil!
Threat this beauty nice, as you get to figure out how it behaves, you will love to use it!
Yesterday I cut TR26x5 trapezoid thread on it yith no problem, perfect fitting.

It changes to backgear pretty good somtimes have to move the chuck to line up the splines but with the vfd its probably only thread cutting i'll use it forReally pretty!

i double checked the oil pan is working ok when I changed the belts and it seem fine plus if you drop oil into the hole above the bearing it slowley disappears, strange there is no oil fed to the center bearings but I ran the lathe up with top off slowly and they get splashed so assume thats how its meant to be
I'm looking forwards to cutting threads but it a whole new learning curve for me so many different ways to do it when looking on interenet

Yes, the center bearings have only 'mist' lubricating. If you think about it, they have the least, and constant force on them, and that is from the belt tension only.
