Obviously not the case here but I always thought the notches on the outside signified a left hand thread, like on gas regulators?

i thought they had some significance too. in the car world, these are on aftermarket brake pipe fittings which signify metric

If it was made in the US, but sold in the UK, its likely to be BSP considering your NPT fitting doesn't want to run in

I would like some more of the goodyear hoses but I have never found anywhere in the UK that sells them.
The ones I have both came from America

Not sure there is a standard for the those notches - might be manufacturer specific to show taper thread, or 45 deg flared fitting, metric etc

yeah i dont think it would have been changed, even the american warranty phone number sticker is still on it.
Ive just ordered a couple of BSPT and NPT hose tails, i will report back when ive tried them all

The goodyear site suggests it's 1/4npt but your own measurements look more like 3/8.
See if the thread they have put on the end of the outlet hose will screw into the inlet?

theres 2 sizes i think, that hose reel with the 1/4 fittings is a 5/16 hose - my hose is 3/8 also so its a bigger unit.
Its looking like its 3/8 npt, just might be a bit snug going in. il crank down the 3/8 NPT fitting i have a bit more and see how it feels.
yep the hose tail fits, but its not a swivel joint so obviously i cant keep twisting the hose

They (at least with the bare hoses) fit either 1/4 or 3/8 fittings onto the 3/8 hose

The fitting with the hex end should be stationary i.e the axle of the hose reel and the square section should rotate around that when fitted correctly, you shouldn’t need to fit another swivel.

Simple option is chop off the unknown fitting and fit the correct one for your application. The chopped hose tail can be used for the reel end or brazed to a bsp if you dont want hose tail.

Hi guys, just to follow up as no one does that on forums it's confirmed as 3/8 bspt , got a few 90 hose tails and they screw in nicely for about 3/4 of the thread length and then snugs up. Thanks for all the replies !
