The last DRO I had on my old machine, had a memory, so If you had 10 holders, you could set up to remember tool 1 has an offset of say 5 mm, tool 2 etc,
So when you change holders, you select which holder your using and in theory it cuts the diameter shown on the dro. Unless like I did, you change the tool but not the offset, so I thought I was machining to a nice h7 g6 fit or what ever, and it was 2 mm out, the wrong way, off to the scrap bin it went.
Some call it zero memory. Basically its supposed to save you checking the diameter and setting the zero each time.
