If brads 140 is the same as Johns then it will have a two speed motor, the two speeds giving the higher and lower speed ranges through the same gearing.
If not then running a different motor with a vfd allows that range to be expanded without losing one or the other, exactly as I am doing on my L5A.
@Brad, I understand Harrison didnt supply these with motors bigger than 3hp (2.2kw), just bear that in mind in going bigger as with more grunt you may stress items beyond their capabilities.
Also you shouldn't run much more than 1500rpm unless your machine has the alternative components in the headstock for the high speed (like John's). What these components are I've yet to figure out, the IPD isn't particularly helpful.
In that case, hmm probably cheaper with a vfd.
