It also has metric cross slide@roofman.
Metric leadscrew?
Interesting, it's not an L5A because it's an 11" despite being identical. Same as the 140 is not an 11" because of the changed headstock.
All the same machine really, it's like car models and their facelifts
11” came later in the life of the L5Ile throw this in the mix...mine is a full metric 11" and identical to all these but came with a single speed 3 phase
I don’t know where to begin...mine is a full metric 11"
I worked on one before I got my 140.11” came later in the life of the L5
you could literally configure these lathes however you like
Yes i know say it like that and it makes no senseI don’t know where to begin...

folded in half
Yes unfortunately there's no cheap way to power that motor from single phase.
However if you swap the motor for a newer 2800rpm 2.2kw motor you will be able to run it from a vfd to get the full range of speeds. (As I am doing)
You could do it for about £200 if you found a used motor and a used a Chinese vfd.
Varies wildly. Has it got a screw cutting box, tool post, threaded spindle or L type. Condition of the ways etc.Ok, so basically would just be converting to a similar set up to the pillar drill just more HP.
Ok, potential to double that if I wanted non Chinese components and a new motor.
Out of interest price for a decent L5 with 3&4 jaw, rests etc. in decent used shape?

paid 1400 for my 140 but there was not a lot about at the time.
6pole no good you’ll end up with 500 rpm top speedGiven 2 speed motors being rare I would ebay it for the price of a 2kw 6 pole. 1.5hp is not much for a lathe this size.
Has a screw cutting box, haven't seen it in person to assess condition but looks broadly in good shape.
Normal tool post, couple of fixed steady's.
Money similar to what you paid.
Not sure the difference in spindles? What impact would this cause?
TBH just trying to work out the differences between the models as only saw it this morning.
Couple "fixed" steadies?not a fixed and a travelling, I'd be interested in one if it's going spare.
Basically there is a threaded spindle, as it sounds, chucks screw on, and there are taper spindles (L00 in the case of the L5) which locate on a large taper with a screwed locking ring behind, show us a picture and we can tell you. The taper spindle is more rigid, but harder (and more expensive) to get and make backplates for, in reality it makes little difference.
I can see it's a gap bed from the photo.
