I agree, when done right they are a good thing. They do work, as proven in the Villages local to me.

But when they take on more powers than they should and do not apply the rules to everyone that when a lot of paple get upset with them.
Once one bunch get a bad name they all do.

Do it right or don't do it.

Yes, I don't agree with them taking sides or getting ideas above their station, but I can absolutely see why people have the hump with speeding through villages.

So in theory if we all stick to the limits for a year or two they'll lose all that revenue and having the cameras will start to cost them money, so they'll remove them...

There is no such thing as "them" it's just us the taxpayer, always remember that when they go on about the government spending money.

But I doubt it, more likely they'll say "Look the cameras work but they must be speeding elsewhere, we need more of them"

I prefer the alternative, get everybody in the country to speed past cameras enough times to get banned and then refuse to pay. They can't lock up everybody for not paying and if everybody is banned then the entire country grinds to a halt. Not so much anarchy as civil disobedience.

Where I got zapped doing 35 in an alleged 30 zone there was an issue about the speed limit, the lane which I live off has always been a 40, a few years ago someone the roads agency decided it was going to be a 30, now this was all done without notice in the papers or locally, so the do gooders at the one end of the lane, (it is more of a road than a lane) decided to do these zapping outings, maybe the local wist club banned them for fighting or cock fighting out the back, so of course there was a huge uproar, then magically 30 signs appeared, I'm not a careless driver and i thought i was driving legally within the speed limit

They even took it upon themselves to walk round the town reporting:
Bad or illegal parking.
Cars they thought were illegal on the defects they thought they saw.
cars in car parks with no tickets

Had something similar, many years ago. The surrounding streets set up a neighbourhood watch - fast forward a few weeks to the second neighbourhood watch meeting and little guy with a cardigan stands up and starts reading from his notebook; "I've found five cars in the area that have tyres below the minimum tread, and 3 cars with expired tax. I've also got notes on a couple of residents who don't clear up after their dogs. Also, I saw..."

The rest of us; "WAIT - WHAT? The neighbourhood watch is supposed to protect us from outsiders - it's not a charter for you to go reporting on all of us!"

We used to get a couple of the security guards at Longbridge like that, peaked hat pulled down almost over their eyes and they were "THE LAW". One of the maintenance rolled up at 0530 on a winters morning in his wife's car and he'd forgot to bring the pass from his own car, no amount of arguing and showing his ID card would get him past security so he had to park elsewhere and walk into work. He had the last laugh as when he got in he pulled the fuses that supplied the security post so no lights or heating = frozen security guard

A colleague of mine was working on a machine in a bank and had to nip out to his car for a part. The bank clerk wouldn't let him back in without his ID, which was in his jacket on the back of the chair next to the machine he was working on.
