Hacksaw frames

I got a bahco one for the same reason you are describing and it seems to be pretty rigid so far. been using it for about 6 years now.

Well they don't teach apprentices these days, had one come back from college where it was all theory, he hadn't got a clue how to hold a hacksaw or how to stand when using one

Schools generally only ever did the minimum they must in teaching things like that. I've always found watching someone at their job or hobby, and asking advice/questions of them when prudent, to be the best way to learn.

I- allways watched other trades when I was an apprentice. just asked a few questions otherwise they would tell u where to get off look and learn

The real issue is when I was at school are teachers came from the job not a university. The resistant materials teacher " yep that's what they called a combined wood, metal and design teacher" actually drafted a ferrous no ferrous chart on the wall of the class (it was wrong) the wife stopped me telling him though

I've got one like above and I always pick it over the Snap-On or Irwin ones I own.

I say i have one, but I pinch it out of Dad's box whenever I need to cut something straight rather than just off.

After partaking in a similar discussion a while ago I had a bit of a revelation.

As it turns out, I CAN still use a hacksaw!

I've tried all sorts of modern ones, cheap through to not so cheap (eclipse and bahco branded) and not had any success - although one from aldi fell in the 'not awful' category...

I knew I had one somewhere, and I found it - an old fashioned flat frame hacksaw with a straight wooden 'file' handle on it - somewhat like:

I can cut a straight line again! I bloody knew I could! The blade no longer wants to go to canada instead of following a line!

Yes, probably my technique - but I'm blaming modern frames

I'm using one identical to that, it was my Dad's. Still not great at cutting straight 'though......

I've had to rearrange my straight cutting hierarchy - now, from best to worst:

Granddad's old hacksaw
4.5" angle grinder
Modern hacksaw

It's still close between the first two, but they both blow the modern style out of the game.

There is something off with your method of use. I suspect there is an issue with your wrist flopping too and fro hence the handle position making some difference

+1 on a Bacho for new or as cumbriasteve said eBay used probably a Eclipse.

Eclipse used to be everywhere in the steelworks. Ive got two somewhere.
