I cant help buying them .only 4 quid each and 2 quid for the small ones from autojumble its a shame to leave them

Sometimes you need to accept youve got enough

I had 5 battery drills once upon a time........Ive resisted buying more and now im down to 3......all Bosch 24v and 2 x 14v so same batteries.........its usually the battery going that makes the decision to sling it.

Clamps though..........youve never got enough..........nor enough flaming hands to work them

I- allways watched other trades when I was an apprentice. just asked a few questions otherwise they would tell u where to get off look and learn

Man I saw that with my joiners apprentice once. I said to him why don't you send that guy home? He said there is so little he can do and so little I am allowed to give him to do, it's best he isn't my way

We had to spend time in every department in the Steelworks. Pattern Shop, Fitters, Electricians, Melting Shop. I enjoyed the Works Observers.....they were employed to check on the others but in a sort of inert way. They didnt put blame on anyone just noted the machine settings etc............they were mostly men who were old or injured........I now realise they were basically just passing time upto retirement and had been given a "light" job........which is what used to happen.

so what would you guys call mine then ? apprentice i didnt do, yts was a waste of time

i was doing the building trade since i was 12 done loads more as was fitting in flats and bedsits up to old peoples homes and houses

building walls and plaster boarding them
plumbing in sinks and bathrooms
on roofs fitting slates and refitting and cementing the capping stones
flat roofs on dormers building dormers by hand carrying those beams was fun up 2 ladders and then onto the roof
mixing plaster and cement
wiring in plugs and sockets and lights
underpinning houses
roding drains and finding out I like that job as no one comes near you doing drains if they do eat your sandwhich over the drain as its flushes down the pipe

oh and the roof one well h&s would have a field day I was on an 1" rope on the roof

over the years ive learnt most boilers out there seen many a corgi fitters work fail

now heres the laughable part i learnt all that from 12 right up to now ive mixed plaster for 5 lads and they couldnt keep up with us with the mixes by hand and bucket used to sit there and have a fag break and my tea breaks when done after 19 they moaned how come he sits down and smokes and has teabreaks they got handed the mixing wood stick and bucket it didnt last it was hard work 1st bucket and they was knackered

the 19-21 year old nowadays well there a disgrace my nephew is the same once you learnt them they was aware but struggled to even mix cement and keep the same colour or same consistancy good worker not to bad on timekeeping but could be just as bad as well
