Good paint for the Vette ?

Thays what i am going for. Is the base coat a urethane paint ?

No, the base is Acrylic. It is Isocyanate free.

It's all.2k that j am using. I am.sure Iremember him.saying ICC6000 clear coat. Something like that.

I thought you didn't want "Nasties"? Isocyanate paints (your lacquer) require full air fed protection, ventilation and an exclusive working area.

if that rust buster behaves like jotun ( some folk would suggest its re labeled ) then have a think before doing a whole car in it , it goes on peely an drys like stone , ideal for a chassis or under the floor pan on a steel car , but something smoother would help you out with easier sanding

Lechler epoxy sands very easily. I even use it as high build for small areas by applying multiple coats. Works a treat.

as for painting , id suggest you are looking at solvent basecoat and a 1k ready to use clear if you want to avoid iso's

I chose The Rustbuster from feed back from other folk is the reason i went for that one for the primer. it was that or the Lechler. .
I have not long been back from the Paint shop. So they have advised me on using the product called Prospray. They are mixing my paint for me next week and for now i got the rest of my gear needed.
Clear coat is the Prospray ICC-6000-5 All 2k paints aswell.
The Prospray has good read ups thank god as i took there word for it in the end , they do know what there doing ...i hope haha

Soo a few small repairs and were off.

Do you have the full air fed PPE and a "sterile" area to work in? If not you are risking serious lung damage to yourself and anyone in the vicinity. Negative pressure masks ARE NOT SUITABLE for Isocyanates and are specifically disapproved of by the Elfin Safe Tea bunnies.

PLEASE don't even consider it without the correct kit, I have friends who thought it was OTT who are now disabled due to asthma.

ive used it and jotun which is VERY similar , its hard work on a surface that needs to be A1

like i said try a small panel and see how you get on , might be a headache if you prime the whole car and find out its like rubbing a stone

have to be carefull who you listen about bodywork/paint , ive been doing it 35 years and still get people on other forums tell me im wrong and halfords says this n that , also watch out for American's as they have their own ways of doing things lol

only when its too late and the advice was wrong do you find out it was someone dusting in a mirror cover outside their house with cans that's the forum expert

you wont get too much bad info on here though

Judging by his lack of response to the many PPE comments, I suspect that he thinks that we are joking or exaggerating the health damage that results from airborne Isocyanates.

One can lead a horse to water...

As its a metallic paint would it be ok to do the T tops on there on to see how it goes or will it not kook right once done? On these Vettes folk seem to do i all in one go, no panels removed so tt all matches.

No passive mask is suitable for Isocyanates, only a full air fed (positive pressure) shield will be safe to use.

I was doing a small paint job a couple of weeks ago in the shed i've got two extracter fans one large one small so on i went with the job mask on a 3M thought that will do the job and it did for the face. the bad mistake was not understanding the paint as i have always used 2K. It wasnt till i woke up in hospital that i was told that I had to be brought back to life as my lungs had shut down and didnt know that it contains isocyante or something like that so it's celluloss from now on.

Wearing a respirator is essential when using isocyanate-containing paints but you need to ensure:

• It is the right type – only air-fed breathing apparatus is suitable for isocyanate spraying (filtering face masks are not acceptable); and
• It is used at all times when exposure is possible - many sprayers believe it is safe to remove their mask as soon as they have finished spraying but the air still contains large quantities of paint mist that is invisible to the naked eye.

Breathing apparatus, make sure you have the correct type​

Always use air-fed breathing apparatus​

You need suitable air-fed respiratory protective equipment (RPE) with an Assigned Protection Factor of 20 or higher eg an LDH3 air-fed visor or an LDM3 air-fed half-mask. Suppliers of RPE for spraying will provide equipment that meets this specification. The air supplied to the breathing apparatus must be at the right pressure, filtered and clean.

I've seen them misold for at least 15 years that I know of as suitable for isocyanates.

You missed the point of @steveo3002 post He is recommending that as you are insistent on using the rustbuster / jotun primer that you try that on a small area first and see how it flats back afterwards long before you even think about the colour.

Then its probably a product you shouldn't be using until you do, see post #37 by @ajlelectronics
