Ford Wet Belt News?

Lets make cams run with a bevel gear, a chain, a push rod, and then lets make it all silent by using a fiber belt but these belts can not be contaminated with oil or it will damage the belt so put them in a sealed cam cover...Great idea lets put the fiber belt on the inside of engine running in oil as we need it harder for them to do a belt service.

Fords should have learnt their lesson using fibre drives, the v4 and v6 engines from the 60s had fibre gears that regularly stripped the teeth off

I think @chunkolini has the optimum cam drive system on his bike!
Maybe Honda on the earlier VFR series bikes

Thats right and you could buy steel gears to replace them

I remember reading that thread. I still can't believe any company would think plastic spacers in a clutch would be anything but a disaster!
And then they built the wet belt engines
It's scary how far down the road of cheaply built AND badly designed manufacturers are willing to go nowadays just to keep the shareholders and their manager in pocket!

I replaced mine with a steel gear one of the Ford engineers gave me while I was doing some work at Dagenham.

Sounds as though in America there was a class action lawsuit which held Ford liable for the ecoboom problems, they say that the recall doesn’t apply to UK vehicles due to “key hardware differences”
I’d be interested to know what that means, I’d doubt that there were any difference in an engine fitted to a car going to America or one destined for the UK
Unfortunately we don’t have the American equivalent of a class action lawsuit over here.

It’s not so much belt degradation, it’s the debris blocking oil pickup

Now we have VW , PSA and Ford apparently using oval crankshaft and camshaft sprockets due to the increasing pressures associated with High Pressure fuel pumps having an effect on timing belts.
