Helicopter landed opposite us today,the wye is in full flow,as usual nowadays council don’t maintain drains,which I’m convinced is the cause of much of our flooding aswell as changing agricultural cultivation,the junction by us was way deeper than I’ve seen in 37 years,water running along our top meadow and spouts appeared gushing out of banks.Apparently a woman slipped into the river from a field,a hedge saved her FB had there boats ready .All this after just 24 hours rain,steady but not torrential.

Took the dog out for a walk into town earlier and thought the weir was quiet, it's not a 10ft weir anymore but level.

Just up the road, the Lyd has burst its banks in Lydney town.

They're using bulk bags to support the bridge walls.

flood plains taken for building houses instead of letting it burst through onto them slowing down the flow of the river

purpose built concrete flood plains can be built and cleaned out afterwards as long as they are fitted with a sluce gate control

poor maintenance of the drains for my own area its once a year if that to clean the drains

Lots of flooding in NI here yesterday morning. Some of the worst I've seen although the usual fields / flood plains are doing their job filling up and not houses.

A number of roads were flooded I had to go run a few errands yesterday morning. What always amazes me is how fast and ready people are to drive their cars through deep flood water. Floating undertrays and rear diffusers

On one particular stretch of flooding I chose to turn around and take a longer route as my car is low from factory (AMG suspension) so didn't want to risk it, would rather a small detour than risk potential flood damage.

Did Wales/South West get the snow on Saturday?

I'm surprised there's not been more flooding up here, as there was 4-6" of snow fell Saturday morning, then warmed to over 10degC this morning along with a few heavy showers, so that's an awful lot of water needing drained.

I walked across that bridge earlier this year!
Was taking a mate to the pharmacy to find him some drugs for his numerous injuries, after a mishap at the Forest of Dean on the first day of our mountain biking holiday

very little Hydro power in the UK....that cost more money then cleaning drains and river maint...

For the past 40 years only ever bought a house on a hill.......

Crete, we get the odd shower during the summer, summer is from March/April until Oct/Nov....
this year we even had to water the Cactus as it was so hot n dry....our rain all comes in the month of Jan, solid....all runs into the sea.....

Yep, drainage isn't kept clear, rivers no longer dredged, new houses built in silky places, sewage systems & treatment not upgraded in decades, but the housing estates still built to overload them further. And so much more.
There's no money - not for public services. Instead Wales spends over half its annual budget upon "Climate Change" and Virtue Signalling, so there's none left for the public services that used to be maintained better.
These incidents - Instead of triggering a sensible reset of policy & spending, instead get misused & claimed as evidence to justify the need to spend more on "Climate Change" (in a nation [UK] that has a less than 1% impact upon the Climate, while Wales' impact is insignificant).

Things, are not "getting better".

I was near Ripon at the weekend woke up to some one skiing down the road, about 10" of snow but all gone by evening so that must of produced some water

We had a flood on the rod to my village, last from January until May, five months solid, main road a foot deep for about 50’. Not massive compared to many, but a ball ache to go through on a motorcycle, or small car.

I reported it, and complained to the council and reported and complained to Severn Trent, to no avail. ST had a look and said it was was water running off the field and they could do nothing.

And then at the end of May it was gone. Apparently someone saw ST there for a few hours, and it turns out there is a drain right at the centre of the flood….. and they finally cleaned it out.

If it happens again this year I shall video it and YouTube/Facebook it relentlessly until someone gets their finger out and does their job.
