Last time I saw that much goop on the outside of an engine the oil strainer was blocked up with it. New rod bearings required. I would strongly recommend pulling the sump to have a lookEngine only has 61k so I’m hoping mechanically, aside from the lay up giving me clutch maladies that it’ll be ok once the clutch and timing chain leaks are sorted. Then it’ll just be a rolling resto until such time I want to do a full bare shell job on it. It seems quite good in the usually bad places. Time will tell once I start digging.
It was just placed on the timing chain cover seal then when it didn’t seal they pasted it around the lip! If they’d checked the cover the holes were all domed from overtightening.Last time I saw that much goop on the outside of an engine the oil strainer was blocked up with it. New rod bearings required. Why just the passenger wing, is there an issue with the pressings?Fit the bonnet before you weld on the wings and front panel as the passenger wing might need some fettling dependant on when you bought it
Why the metro calliper conversion do you think? I wasn’t of the opinion they were that much better. My 1400 clubby, four up on big 12 inch tyres, s discs, took forever to stop...Back on the Cooper at the moment.
Rather than unpick the front panel ‘ears’ I decided to chop out the crap and replace it with fresh stuff.

I still need to weld this fully. That’s next.

Found my old cut off scuttle with my datum/measurements. Thought I’d thrown it out!
Transferred marks to the new one and clamped it all in, fits well. Gotta repair the NS upper fitch first. I’m on with that this afternoon.

This morning cut out the other side of the inner wing. Made my replacement pice and purposely left the lip short so I could try and Tig it as it won’t be seen anyway. Happy enough with that.

Next I offered it up and found I’d cut the top short so using a thick lump of copper I tried autogenous tig. Very impressed with that. It’s gonna change everything for me!

Excuse the pinholes, blew through the thin metal a couple of times, Sometjing not quite right with my Portamig and I did leave the wire in there for about 7 months and it was starting to rust. It is welded both sides so it’s not going anywhere.

The complete front end is all Heritage and has been sat in the garage for almost 2 years. Hopefully it’ll all be good. So far the panels seem like a good fit.Fit the bonnet before you weld on the wings and front panel as the passenger wing might need some fettling dependant on when you bought it
Not sure, like it when I got it.Why the metro calliper conversion do you think? I wasn’t of the opinion they were that much better. My 1400 clubby, four up on big 12 inch tyres, s discs, took forever to stop...
The passenger wing will give you no gap to the bonnet. I had to modify all of them until heritage realised the company pressing them was using the tooling wrong. The complete front end is all Heritage and has been sat in the garage for almost 2 years. How did you modify that? The passenger wing will give you no gap to the bonnet. I had to modify all of them until heritage realised the company pressing them was using the tooling wrong.
I was privileged to have the test wing to try after I'd complained a lot about it.
