I worked for an electrician not long after leaving school. We were wiring out a chapel sort of place & I was making off a ring main joint box. The guy I worked for wandered off & I carried on, all of a sudden BANG, bugger had switched the power back on. I got a nasty burn on my hand, all the boss said was I thought you would have finished by now! I should have walked, I didn’t, but he sacked me soon after, I had to walk about 6 miles home & he drove straight past me. Best thing he ever did, never known a person like it, his favourite saying was “if I told you how to do it, you’d be as wise as me”

Just goes to prove there are some real A holes in this world.

Unless he was a big 'ard bar steward, he would have most definitely been sat on his 'asre', one way or another

Ive done quite a bit of work with on torch extraction for Mig.

Its good if you are doing a lot of production welding of repeat widgets. However if you are doing general fab shop type stuff where the jobs vary then I’ve found it’s not very good as it’s position sensitive. Next most systems are connected to a stand-alone fan filter system that discharges into the work room air. There are questions about the efficacy of the filters. Some of our crowd are conducting research into the perforce of these filters

Ive seen these systems used in some very very large production shops with highly varying degrees of success

In my experience they have very limited application. I’d suggest you get a system on trial before you part with any folding stuff. They are not for everyone or all applications

every young lad ive had working for me or even other electricians ive made sure there kept safe. i wouldn't even let them auger holes in the ceiling joists with a drill in case they twisted there wrists or fell off doing it
