I find all sizes of hacksaw blades useful, when they wear out I cut/shape them into a point etc. Can certainly come in handy in the workshop, when taking stuff apart etc.

Pulling out the old pad and using a pair of mole grips on the flexi pipe would have got you home.

Can't say I would want to drive a vehicle far with half it's front braking. A couple of miles, But no more!

Well obviously it’s a bodge that results in limited and unbalanced brakes, but it’s better to be able to limp off a roadside/get home slowly and carefully than stay stranded. It’s just down to going very slowly and carefully.

Oxford street was less than 100 yards behind me. I’d been to Claridges minutes before hand so one of the busiest parts of London is never a side road at best
I've driven home with a split brake pipe before now, the brakes still worked in a limited fashion but you only had a couple of presses before the reservoir needed topping up. I've also driven home with no clutch cable, only 3rd and 4th gears, using 4wd with rear halfshafts removed etc etc, whatever gets you home but I'm lucky as the roads have always been quiet-ish or I've been able to wait until it's quiet to make my way home.

All I carry in the EV is a lithium 12v jump pack, just in case it refuses to boot up when I return to it at LHR parking due to a low 12v battery.
When I ran the Mk7 transit I had a laptop with ford ids stuck down the seat back it was that unreliable.
I don't even carry a spare wheel, I've never had a flat in 18 years of motoring. I've got the factory GM pump and sealant system. I really should buy breakdown cover.

Every flat I've had has been at home having driven over some scrap metal. Last one cost me a tyrePlaying with the devil now you've said that!

I find that amazing. I can recall two blowouts alone in the last 5/6 years, a roadside slit and puncture.
All respectable brands of tyre.
At least three of the above could never be fixed with sealant.
I’m not even going to try to count ones that happen at home which generally don’t have the same level of inconvenience.

I guess it's just luck... I'm surprised myself by the lack of punctures to be honest. I've had engine failure, gearbox failure, wiper motor failure but made it home on all occasions.
All were on that bastard Mk7 transit

Always a good idea to have some sort of a first aid kit on board but how intensive of a kit is worth carrying if you haven't got the experience/had training recently?
Personally I'm not one for blood guts and gore so I'm hoping that a trained doctor or nurse may be walking past if/when I need help, having the kit on board would be handy then.

We have all been on the one day course with refreshers every two years, I am not to clever with blood and guts but think I could manage to stop a gusher in a life or death situation.

I've only ever had a couple of punctures in tyres that sealant would have coped in all my decades of driving, most of the time the tyre is too far gone for a dribble of snot to seal it. I always carry a spare wheel and on the vehicles that use them a few spare tubes.

Probably due to many years in St John, Rally Ambulance and being a works first aider I have them in both cars, a small one on the bike and a comprehensive one at home, we even have "dog first aid" kits in the cars just in case
One lives in the hallway in a grab bag so can be used inside or outside
One thing I have noticed is how life saving techniques change over the years from when I first started in the 70's.
