Just bought a couple of 2kW oil filled rads from Toolstation. One of those seems far better than the little 2kW fan heater I had.

That is how I have piped every care home or commercial space I have worked it, over a big space the small savings add up

I'm not sure if it's in the building regs or not, but it is definitely how TRVs are designed to be used

I’ve seen is the likes of commercials etc aswell , not disputing that , or the efficiency . I know that there are larger sections within the regs regarding access , ie the height of electrical sockets in new builds , so maybe within commmercial , buildings for public use , the same rules apply .

You do seem to want to dispute the point though, I've been a heating engineer for 21 years, admittedly the last 3 have been as project manager so off the tools.

I could Google proof or quote regs, but the fact remains TRVs are designed to be fitted to the top of rads, we fit them at the bottom for convenience and the aesthetics

Fan heaters are good, but they're all or nothing. There's no heat stored.

I am repeating what senior managers told me who have worked there for 20 years. I trust they knew what they were talking about. Not just Googling for answers.
It's all political - imagine their share price if people thought they were going to put nuclear waste down there. Of course they will deny it.
Imagine the protestors.
The science will never be allowed to win against prejudice.

Because the vast majority of people dislike the fact that others are more experienced and knowledgeable than they are about a particular subject.

Those that have little experience of science or engineering (proper engineeing that is) are unable to grasp that decisions need to be based on high quality, quantifiable data of good standing rather than "gut feeling" or a Google search of selective "woo" (scientific term).

Having said that though, confirmation bias is a concerning issue - you should see some of the papers and theses I've read - arguing the point they want to promote while paying little attention to counter positions.

Mines a Benetone , and I “think” it won’t be much different .. Luckilu my 20 year old Wallstar is just a burner and water jacket . Not a lot to go wrong ..

As for a shared tank … maybe it’s times to start a small holding , work that loop hole .

Do you have any kind of strategy other than bleating on (incorrectly) that wind is useless and we should have more nuclear (which I agree with, but I also understand the longer term issues)

Perhaps. But when other countries simply continue to increase their GHG emissions without care, it does feel like we are peeing into the wind somewhat. Sure, we could do better but the difference it will make has got to be negligible, while China, India and Russia maintain the attitude they have.

Having seen the difference to people's lives energy savings make I will continue doing what I am doing

A lot of these "Green" initiatives are not about actually solving a problem, just moving it to another country or "offsetting" it.
While our carbon balance book might look great at the end of it, the glaring issue with this approach is we all still live on the same rock, and therefore unless everybody works together everybody suffers.

It has to be a global effort, and it has to actually work, not just look good on paper.
The world is a long way off that, and we have already run out of time to fix it.
It is now a case of damage limitation, and the biggest offenders are unlikely to change.

I disagree with moving around or hiding it

I've installed heat pumps for elderly and disabled people in social housing, when you return a few months later and they are over joyed that they are saving 50% on their electricity bills

Care to post any links with evidence we are just moving the problem around or how much green offsetting we actually do in this country?

My understanding is that it has become a bit of Daily Mail/Telegraph phrase without any real substance

Not really - I did say we could do better and continue to improve but I don't think the world gains needed are going to come from heat pump installations in the UK. Anyway, I am not going to get into an argument with you here, we are both entitled to our opinions.

Im not arguing for the sake of it, I love this forum and have made great friends on here, but a lot of current attitudes and opinions remind me of Facebook and Reddit, the modern equivalent of The Daily Mail. People make wild claims yet when asked for proof or evidence the standard response is to not reply or say "I'm not arguing"

Like I said “ I am not disputing” any of the technical side . …..

We could all google anything and find answers . The question is then why if they are designed to be fitted to the top and it is in regs to do so . Why at most modern buildings signed of by building control when they are fitted below , given how strict regs / building control has become …
