Again - I’m sure they are very experienced at what they do but what experience do they have in dealing with nuclear waste? The quote above was from the md of the mine, but his view doesn’t count? You can choose to think that everyone is against nuclear because “ green” or you can choose to believe that the storage and disposal of waste might actually be more difficult than you might think.I am repeating what senior managers told me who have worked there for 20 years. I trust they knew what they were talking about. Not just Googling for answers.
It's all political - imagine their share price if people thought they were going to put nuclear waste down there. Of course they will deny it.
Imagine the protestors.

) for a PhD to do with designing storage containers for deep borehole disposal, it's a research area, it isn't a viable solution yet. I think the fact that they wanted to pay three graduates for three and a half years, just to develop finite element models of these containers suggests there's a lot more to it than "drill a hole and drop it down". The chap who interviewed me has written literally dozens of papers just on the cements and grouts for backfilling and capping off the holes.
