Elegoo Carbon Centuri

Could be worthwhile printing one of the spool panel protectors next. There are plenty on Printables & such. Apparently the spool occasionally rubs up against the side panel, so they protect the paintwork/side panel.

I'm tight for space on the right so was thinking of going with the mod that pushed the right panel out an inch or so and then holds the spool inside the enclosure.

I've moved mine onto a small spool holder so thay I can remove the holder from the side of the unit. Sorted it last night. There was a hint of irony with the spool holder though, which is an adjustable width one. One of these:



Had to space out the rollers from the housing to slightly decrease the minimum width spool they would accept. They wouldn't fit one brand of roll I have here, (they do now). The culprit? The newer style of Sunlu spool.

Quite a nice little unit though. Bearing rollers. Nice metal construction. Rollers are nylon. The adjustable width is achieved by a couple of cross rods which extend. They're like the old extending radio aerials; Tubes within tubes.

Question: How do you set the sport or ludicrous mode on the Centauri?

I've tried setting it on the app and on the display, but it makes no difference - the time-to-complete stays the same.

This turned up today.



For those times when you're looking at a roll, wondering if there's enough filament left to complete a print, instead of going the runout & reload route, I decided to try this. First attempt was a dismal failure, second attempt seems reasonable.



The join is just below that white sleeve. I've currently got that roll on the printer, with a print going, so I'll see how it goes.

Also printed, & finished assembling today, this.



I wasn't actually going to bother with one of those, but seeing as they advise removing the lid if printing PLA, I thought that was merely a simpler option, being able to open vents. Stuck the parts together with a grey caulk, so it'll also fill gaps, (mating tolerances are a bit loose), & put some 2mm thick, 15mm wide sticky back foam around the inner lip for the glass to sit atop.

Printing that lid as we speak.
First attempt (thankfully I was doing one length at a time) was a disaster because I placed it upside down with supports and, of course, it put supports inside the sliders.
Now re-printing the right way up, with no supports...

I suspect that authorisation is going to be revoked on her return.

So plus point (which might be a negative for my Anker for-sale thread!) is that it "Just Works" (tm) out of the box. Didn't need to do any fiddling around with the belts and suchlikes.
Another plus is the enclosure, which does away with the separate shroud I had for the Anker.

Negatives: it seems slower than the AnkerMake, the software is surprisingly worse, which is pretty impressive!

Soooo... mixed bag so far.

What slicer software does the Anker use? The Elegoo uses Orca.

I think they all use hacked versions of standard products? ElegooSlicer ??? - this guy:

Seems less polished than the Anker slicer. But then Anker discontinued their slicer...

As for speed - perhaps it's the model I'm printing (the Centauri has only been out of its box for 24 hours) but the notion of a print taking eight hours is a totally new concept to me.
So, utterly non-scientific!

Will report back in a few days, especially once I've printed some of my own designs.

It's amazing what you lot get upto when your wives disappear for a few days.

@skotl my Centuri actually prints slightly faster than my Bambu P1S and that's very quick already.
I only use stock settings and the Elegoo slicer.
Have you updated the firmware?
Once you are settled perhaps we can try printing the same file along with @MattF to see if we all get the same result?

Well, the 8 hour print (the risers that Matt has) completed with zero issues and great quality. Please don't take my trepidation as being concern!

Implemented this as a quick & dirty hack, with me removing the side mounted spoolholder. A cover for the sensor which holds a 4mm ptfe tube.



However, watching how smoothly that filament is feeding, (no snatching of the spool or suchlike), I'm thinking that I may just tweak it slightly & leave as is.

They look like they may be usable, so I'm leaving the print running.

I've been quite amazed how well it prints without support, especially that lid riser.

On the topic of the lid riser, I was running it with all the vents opened and the glass lid on and the printer complained that the enclosure temp had hit 40C (I'm printing PLA, and the sun is shining on the back of the printer). So I've removed the lid and the temp has dropped to 35C.

Suspect it will be happier when it's not so hot outside.

Fancied having a play to see how far they can be modified/enhanced with regard to the basics & such, but didn't want to risk cocking my existing one up. Plus, when they finally release their AMS, I can have one single spool, & one with AMS.

Yes, I know, I'm a sad ba****d who needs to get a life.

I just like this printer. Good build quality, (as evidenced by my first unit), & glass rather than plastic door & lid just says quality, to me. Plus good print quality, so what more can one ask. For what they cost, it's good equipment for the money, IMHO.

Just hope this one's arrived undamaged.

They've definitely cleared their backlog. This was only ordered around midweek.
