I don’t work in buildings much, but certainly the bulk of stuff I work in (machine controls and industrial control systems) is 24dc for control - mainly because it is also used for plc inputs so you have 1 supply for all. For a 4 kw contactor on RS there are 48 ac versions and 74 dcWell one way of looking at that question might be to see how many devices you could choose from the rs catalogue that would fit the plan that are ac and how many dc .
Anyway as I say in U.K. motor control panels for motors in buildings 24v or 230v ac is the norm as a control circuit. Mainly as you only need a Tx and a fuse or breaker, having to have a dc psu is extra cost/complexity. Other industries may vary.
