Nope, all the Uni Fresh kids want to do the bosses job 5 mins after joining. Was out with one today, a proper confident and cocky little so and so, said it’s easy, seen you do your stuff many times. Bit of an ongoing storey this.

So today he was ribbing me at have a pencil case in my rucksack. I spend a lot of time on the road so my tuck sack is my portable office, just the usual stuff carried. Ribbing carried on on morning. Idiot found it amusing that I carried highlighter pens and a pair of scissors

After lunch we went to a print works, of course it’s easy was his attitude. After we walked through the door and announced ourselves I introduced him as being in charge of the inspection, I didn’t say a word and let him lead while he had a nuclear melt down. I took over

We had a short chat in the car afterwards. I used lots of words that I can’t repeat here. He complained to my boss. Boss called to thank me

The only benefit to working extra hours to someone paid hourly without a bonus is the extra money.

Personally after working 40 hours in a week my time after that is worth more to me than what they can pay.

Unfortunately I’m not willing to diminish my family time to make someone else rich.

If I was offshore, I’m sure it would be a different matter if I couldn’t go home to my family. Might as well be at work

Unfortunately I cant. Somebody from a forum once worked out were I worked and caused a bit of hassle.

Its basic manual work and very simple machine operation.

Its nothing to do with the company or the work. Its the under 30 generation. Other companirs I know who pay more etc have the same issues - work is something you avoid.

I'd like to state that you shouldn't tar all us under 30's (1990) with the same brush.

I'm work 38 hours a week, study an OU degree part time and have a 8 month old child. I regularly work longer hours with no extra pay. I even worked from home during my paternity leave; much to the displeasure of my better three quarters.

I don't think I'm in the minority.

on one hand we have the wages



then we have the weekly tax deduction can anyone calculate it for say the 21-24 year olds please

there are other factors that need to be taken into account – such as inflation, prices of essential goods and housing food and other stuff to run a house

its fine if you live at home but if you dont the rent and council tax kills you off

I can understand some of the attitude of it.

it was my argument years ago why would i take a job while renting a property and only making 5.00 extra for working my backside off all week

now dont get me wrong but if you could sit on ones backside and do nothing and get 5.00 less that what you earned all week what would you do ?

all your rent is paid for and council tax the food is basic but so its the same when your working

It should NEVER pay to sit at home and be a drain on the taxpayer, unemployment benefit etc should be just sufficient to keep your head above water and that's it, just the absolute basics so rent/mortgage, food and enough electric/gas to keep from freezing and to cook. None spare for booze or Sky Tv etc

You know what I mean, and yes I have been unemployed a couple of times but only due to being made redundant twice. And funnily enough my first action was to find another job rather than go and sign on.

It can be in certain circumstances. I understand alcoholics are now being paid a 'drink allowance'?
And the serial, long-term, determined unemployed know the benefits system better than those in the offices and train their offspring accordingly, so the system is self perpetuating. I've seen it in action.

many claim esa while they are boozing on unemployment benefit however with esa they dont sign on every 2 weeks

heres a break down list

The maximum weekly rate is £56.80 (age 16-24) and £71.70 (age 25 or over). no council tax to pay no rent

weekly outgoings for either age range

15-20 on electric
15-20 on gas
food shopping 15.00 try to buy a sack of spuds rest is frozen food and some tinned food not forgetting milk
bathroom toiletries lets say 5.00
bus fare to sign on 4.30
water rates 7.00
tv license 5.60 per week

not forgetting you have jobsearch 1.00 per hour at your local library or at an internet portal site 3 visits per week and not forgetting yor job interviews if you get any your expected to travel 1 1/2hrs

just to put this into context, with benefits its depends on how well you know how to get the system to work for you, one scenario is that you can get either personal independence payments (pip) or disability living allowance (dla) benefits as you may need additional help with daily living activities, and someone can then claim carers allowance for looking after you. Now you can get a couple who can claim the carers allowance for looking after one another if you're partner is claiming the pip or dla, at this stage remember that the pip or dla payments are because you're not really able to look after yourself. then on top of this you may be able to claim a severe disability premium, which may be payable to someone who does not have anyone claiming carers allowance for them....now if some if claiming certain types of pip of dla, then the fact that they are also claiming carers allowance doesn't matter.

so claiming as a couple you may be able to get just under £500 a week (or over £500 a week if you claim for the mobility element of pip or dla) per week from the benefits with a council house thrown in on top. and of course that is tax free. which works out to roughly £30k before tax .

If it was a normal couple both working 40hrs a week at minimum wage they would end up with just over £30k a year, but that would be taxed so you'd end up with a take home pay of roughly £25k a year. which is roughly what the couple above would be earning.
