Local councils never learn, do they?
IT's why there's so much crap dumped on the streets in my borough.
The cost to the council (us) is probably higher than if they just took the stuff away in the first place without charge. It would certainly make for cleaner streets.

Most tips were sold off and not council run any more. Ours was Veiola and now, after many fires, is ran by Biffa.
They charge an extortionate amount for waste and that includes green waste. One of the many reasons that councils are now bankrupt.

Very true, and what value do you put on a countryside that isn't littered with builders rubble, old sofas and random black binbags?
My ex up North was a mobile country warden (checking parks, public walks, general countryside), she told me fly tipping went through the roof when the tips in her area started to charge for certain types of rubbish.
She queried it and was told the department who introduced the charges were only responsible for "council tips profit & loss" - since they introduced charges they had less work to do and they got paid by people who used the tips. They regarded it as a total success
The "clean up flytipping" expenses came out of a different council budget so wasn't relevant for the tips department.
One visit sticks in my mind - Ex's mother passed away so we cleared the house and took several binbags of mothers clothes (and underwear) to the tip.
Monkey in charge insisted to emptying the binbags onto an inspection deck to check they didn't contain any chargeable items.
Not sure how I would have handle the situation if a random monkey wanted to sort though my dear departed mothers underwear!
I'll not name the area she's at as I know similar things happened in my area when my local tips started to charge.

Ours (Hermon), is still council owned and run.
Re the swarf, some I chuck in with the 3weekly household bin run, if it's fine stuff I will burn it, mostly reduces to nothing.

Our lot were on about having to 'register' trailers with them so when you booked your slot you would only be able to take a specific trailer that they had on file...except they saw the flaw with that when they were logging little box trailers as 'single axle' then people were turning up with caravans full and rightfully arguing that it only had 1 axleNothing compared to what you can get in the back of a series1 Sorento with the seats folded flat

I took several brake discs and drums, a fuel tank an old front wing to our dump and other bits and pieces. Got accused of being commercial. I’m not, it’s just stuff we’ve replaced on our own cars over the years. I just carried on filling the skip whilst the guy rattled on.
At my local scrap yard you need an account if you want to drop off and get paid. If you don't want payment, then no account needed.
I don't produce much swarf. Maybe a couple of buckets worth for a single job. I always dump it in the household waste wheelie bin. No complaints so far.

I'm pretty sure if you don't want anything for it, your local scrap yard will take it FOC. Fred Lloyds in Pontypool does, I do have an account with them but had a cooker to get rid of, wasn't worth weighing in so just rocked up, asked if they wanted it FOC and left it there.

When I had my old shed collected I asked if they wanted a bag of scrap metal to weigh in, he said "you've only booked to have the shed taken away", I think he was angling for a cash bung, I said "no problem, I'll just leave it on the verge for one of the travelling tatters we get round here", he took the bag
