It is permanent four wheel drive in exactly the same way an escort is two wheel drive. A diff just allows for different wheels travelling a different distance whilst cornering. The centre diff does exactly the same.
i assumed permanent 4wd meant the likes of the freelander, i assumed because the disco's have 2hi, 4hi and 4lo that it wasnt permanent. if it is in 2hi will the front wheels take any power as i assumed it was rear only when in 2hi
