Yupp, will have it until I get an 8ft folder.
Theres 1 section of finger missing so its about 4inch short but will def be selling it at some point.

Yes most are green ...but some light and some dark green

Reading through this thread has made me realise how lucky I am at work, we have an 8ft Edwards box and pan, a 3ft Edwards (box and pan again) plus a 3m wide 80T hydraulic press that will do 6mm mild steel over about 1500mm! And we're not a big company, only 5 in the workshop at a maximum time.
Have to say I'm not impressed with those 3-in-1 machines that have been shown, they look like they're a bit lacking for the price and I'm never easy about machines that purport to be able to do multiple things, too much to go wrong.

I have a 2.5m x 2.5mm Carter box pan folder. Had about 5 years now. It's made in China and all Carter do is rivet their nameplate straight over the top of the Chinese one.

Its a decent enough bit of gear once set up but it's at least a 2 man job to bend 2mm @2.5m length! I have done short sections of 3mm on it but again it is a 2 man job to do so. It's not used much now as I gave up making ATV trailers a couple of years ago now, buts it's far too handy a bit of kit to get rid of just yet!

Hi...just digging this thread up. Do you mind saying how much the Carter folder was when you got it?

I’ve spent too much time looking at old Edwards etc folders...all need things sorted. It won’t get heavy use from me so thinking a new Chinese made folder will be more accurate than an old British made model

Wouldn’t say happy...more beggars can’t be choosers! I bought a Keetona hydraulic folder last year but it’s inconsistent and hard to use as can’t see how much it’s bending properly

What would a big company who had plenty money do if they wanted a manual box and pan folder? There must still be quality makes?
OTOH a cheapo Chinese might even exceed my needs!

Morgan Rushworth is decent stuff, been around many years.
From what I've seen of Baileigh gear, it's all pretty light weight compared to some.

Only if you are putting creases in A3 card..

They would go to one of the many used machine dealers and buy a decent used machine. Even if it needs a few quid spending on it to tidy it you will end up with a machine with a quality that far exceeds far east junk and will retain value on resale.

Original names - Morgan Rushworth, Gabro, Keetona, Edwards etc. The generic chinese ones will always be attractive to buyers because of price, and you might kid yourself they will do the job for a fraction of the price - they won't. They look great in the pics until you see them in the flesh then instantly regret parting with the money.

We have had a Morgan Rushworth guilly which was bought used from a stainless fab company. Over the 8 years we have had it all we have done is regrind the blades. It is a 3m/10mm capacity but will shear 12mm.

Baileigh gear is better quality than some of the far east kak but is still lightweight - not a patch on the original big names.

See it’s all just names I’ve read but know nothing of really...are th3 Carter’s really that bad? At least they look like they’re still heavy rather than the 2 in 1 type lightweight machines with slitting/cutting wheels

It’s annoying they can sell stuff as ‘2.8mm capacity’ unless it actually clean and accurately does that gauge

I’ve used one of the Eastern European ones from eBay, it was okay but it would flex in the centre on a wide fold. 2.8mm capacity is going to require a hefty folder.

Yep the one I used was good for automotive stuff but bending up a sill for an old Jag the bend washed out in the centre so wasn't a clean fold but that was pretty much a maximum fold for that folder. It had a cutting attachment as well so probably more designed for ducting etc.
