Current manufacturers of folders etc

I’ve spent too much time looking at old Edwards etc folders...all need things sorted. It won’t get heavy use from me so thinking a new Chinese made folder will be more accurate than an old British made model

That's funny because my preference would always be for OLD British made rather than new Chinese stuff, sure the Edwards might need a bit of fettling if it's been abused but it'll still be going long after you're pushing up the daises.

I agree. An fj Edwards will need a bit of work. But they are built with mass so can be repaired or worked on and will definitely out last a modern day equivalent. Not saying modern are rubbish.

my preference would be old British (I bought a Keetona, have spent too much time and money trying to get it right) but main thing is it folds evenly...the Keetona was cheap, rather pay a bit more this time and get something that just works. My theory behind a new model is even if it's not as sturdy it will do what I want (mainly 2mm alu sheet) and won't get enough/heavy use for wear to be a factor

Sorry for the late reply, just home from my brother's wedding!

I got the Carter in an eBay auction way back in 2011. Winning bid was £1800 or thereabouts. Plus £180 to get it delivered.

The same model is now advertised for around 5 grand

We don't really use ours anymore as we gave up making off road atv trailers back in 2014. Its sitting in a lean to shed at my mates gsthering dust!

Looks like they sell them off on auction but also have a higher set price on their website. Delivery is certainly a lot more now too!

How does it perform with 8ft sheets/strips?
Does it give in the middle at all?

The bend is slightly less defined in the middle of an 8ft length, but that may be down to user error in setting it up rather than the machine itself. We only ever used it to bend 1.5mm mild steel and sometimes 2.5mm Ali at full width of 8ft. Its tackled some 3mm mild steel at short lengths but its a 2 man job to do it!
