Hi all, I've never welded before apart from a few minutes of MIG, so I thought I would make a nice easy start for myself by jumping straight into TIG
I got hold of a Stahlwerk AC/DC tig a few days ago. I've done a bit of practice on mild steel and on aluminium. The steel went ok. I need a lot more practice, but it generally looked and acted sort of like a weld. When I tried aluminium I just could not get anything like a reasonable bead. I went along a 2mm sheet of scrap alu and went through a whole range of different settings on the machine and tried to just melt some runs with and without filler rod and all of them were complete rubbish. I'm at a complete loss as to what is wrong here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Fairly happy with these mild steel welds for a first attempt...
...but the aluminium was a complete **** show...
Disgusting lap weld attempt...
