There are three holes on the bed for swarf to drop down into the chip tray. The one in worst condition is closest to the headstock. I settled for the middle one to do first, sanding it out both by hand and with the Dremel. I haven't used the Dremel in ages, but it's simply fantastic when you have pokey work like this.
Now a prime before I add a thin skim of filler to neaten it all up
The rear of the bracket which holds the leadscrew, spline shaft and the power lever (which I've removed) goes into gloss red. Originally this was gloss yellow.
And the red paint didn't stop there. I painted these machined cutouts in the bed with red paint too, no reason really other than it neatens it all up in my mind.
Plus it gives me a chance to see what the red would look like between the ways (if you stretch your imagination)
