Is it made of blended unicorn tears and angel farts?and then hydraulic oil ($130 for 10l - that's the minimum amount I can buy).
I'm only just catching up with this thread...

Somebody's taking the urine with hydraulic oil at that price.
I'd whang some Universal Tractor Oil lube in it without a worry. If I couldn't find any, ATF would be a close second.
Hell, if absolutely nothing else was available I'd put some GTX in it, rather than be royally stitched up.
This is what the manual recommends. Tellus 27 became this.

Funnily enough, older 415v-input VFDs can be pretty simple to hack to give 415v from 240v single-phase, I've done it to run my Holbrook's 3-speed motor...
ABB ACS300 series are pretty easy, sturdily made too.

This has perked my interest up.
I have a couple of 600/400 motors that I've been wondering what to do with.
However, a quick look for ABB 300 series VFDs turns nothing up at a sensible price.
Which leaves me wondering if I could run these motors (via a cheapie VFD) at 240V 3ph or would they just be a waste of time, with too much of a loss of torque?
Even in its smallest quantity there, it's only over £3/L, so somebody's making a 'kin fortune over your place at $nz13/L
The native cost of that should tell you that it's not THAT exotic an oil, no matter how much the blurb tries to make it out to be.
A part which was totally mashed on the original has arrived, bought this from a guy in Cardiff who seems to make them himself. £30, not at all cheap, but a working compound slide is invaluable.

And I can't believe I have only just found this thread gggrrrrr
Any ISO32 hydraulic oil will do or even 46, which will probably quieten the gears a bit.

I wonder if a gl4 ep80/90 gearbox oil would be best. Landrovers love the stuff!
Would the oil pump survive pumping around oil that thick (80/90) though ?

No pump on a Bantam, they use a low set gear to flick oil up. Fill to a level and you’re away. The only pump is for the coolant.
