Was a time when the council did 3 free empties a year round here!

they all fill to the top with water anyhows. if its a day or months its only when the crap hasnt fully digested and broke down they need emptying . some can go for 20 years if u dont fill em with surface water and just foul and hard;y any disinfectant is used

Tbh when the loos start to flush slow then a few buckets of boiling hot, bleach laden water with some washing powder is SWMBO's go to.

She just can't seem to accept sometimes that for instance it needs pumping out. Like by some magic miracle she can fix it.

Only the loos here go into the cess pool. Basin & bath waste just exit onto the unmade ground one side of the house.

The other side of the house, kitchen sink, dishwasher and washing machine exit again onto the garden under a big bush.

Rainwater varies. There is apparently one soak away one side of the house that I've a rough idea where it is. Keep meaning to borrow work's Rothenberger drain cam and have a look. Otherwise straight onto the garden.

Tbh it's all a bit third world and I'm tired of it (like life in general).

Convert the cesspit into a sceptic tank by adding another small chamber adj to what you have and run off into some filter beds, may as well get all the rest of the grey water off into the same drains /filter beds. @4000ltr capacity it will never need emptying again in your lifetime

Sounds like you need some rest and some "You Time".
You've had a heck of a lot happening recently,
need to take care of yourself as well.

Get the poo pit pumped out, put some temporary weather proofing / stop the kiddies falling in , over it and have a break from the job.

An apparently nice man turned up and emptied the cess pool. SWMBO was there and dealt with it. Reckons he was sucking up "bricks and glass"?

The guy was very concerned about the state of the lid and reckon it's been left too long to repair. Don't suppose she mentioned we only found it in 2019! Insisted he put "something" over it when finished so she found him a pallet.

Said their sister company does "macerator" installs according to SWMBO but I imagine he said / meant treatment plants. They will come and do the dig and install etc. Tbh my BiL has diggers etc and I'm over on the Buildhub forum so would likely look to do it myself from input there.

If I go that route I'm favouring the Vortex unit.

first off

its up to you to sort life in general out if your not happy with it then change it

its not a third world system and if im being honest its been doing its job well

youve sat there and let it do its job since you have had the property
in all this time youve done no changes to this system other than have it pumped out

i could say the same with what youve allowed to grow around and above it the things that can cause issues is the thing your growing and your pics tell me that one

you can buy new things for house, kitchen, bathroom, buy a car and yet when it comes to your drains its unseen and dont want to know
so now you have to upgrade /maintain them yes the ladies have caused a few problems techs moved on enough now

so its either stick with what you have do the repairs needed or upgrade it slightly or upgrade it to a bio system with hardley any clear outs needed yes you may need an odd clear out for wrong things put down there

dont go the electric route its expensive and breaks down with expensive repairs

so dont listen to there seller spiel b.s

your system can easily be changed within reason just by addons built right up to the old system or with new installs added onto the system

Cheers, had a **** of a week then you pipe up. Tbh I struggle with most of your posts due to the spelling, grammar and lack of punctuation.

I only uncovered it in 2019 in a hugely overgrown section of garden. Been a bit busy since then with 4 parents dying, Covid etc.

The sxxx's now gone, it's been there working for years so leave it till next spring to sort out, there's a few people hear who have or have built these things so the info is pretty good mostly! @8ob knows his sxxt ! Maybe do that next year?

I'm concerned about the integrity of the lid. Not sure it'll stand another winter. I'd rather clear the area and clean the lid and see what I'm dealing with. Maybe fence off for now as a minimum.

Fighting SWMBO who has always deemed it a "wild area" for liccle animals! I'd clear the lot and relocate them

Mulling too opening the front up to have a second driveway. so that could complicate the re-siting.

Oh for infinite funds and time!

I'm guessing the lid would have originally been cleverly laid with bricks in a dome shape so as when set to be strong and self supporting?

I was half thinking of getting some type of cruciform rig in there and lifting the whole lid off with a Manitou etc. Pretty hairy though. Or just getting the digger to take the top off but risking a lot falling in. What a rotten job that would be to then recover the debris!

If only it were that easy! There's certain trees and plants that have to be avoided and I'm paraphrasing SWMBO here; "Mum gave me that lilac tree/bush/triffid as a cutting!"

Even the water main trench had to be routed around them!

Theres an easyway to sort this….but sadly its expensive…..take mrs on holiday, pay a proper bloke to sort the tank-and drains

good luck on replacing it where it is now digging all the brickwork out and then have to dump it all in a skip stinking away then hope it doesnt rain for a few days and you cant have a crapjust dig the tree out and put the new tank next to the old. then just reroute the pipework in a day conect up job done. the spoil you dig out just fill the old tank with it thats all i did with mine . same as on a job i did months ago wiring it in for the groundworker

Chap that built the passiv place I posted up about, he filled in his and put a clay cap over the top. a couple of feet thick if I recall.
