I find the problem with Kunifer is getting a decent flare when using a handheld tool.
I've been making up and fitting copper brake pipes for 20 years and never had a problem
I just don't understand anyone struggling to flare Kunifer, its the easiest thing to bend and flare in my opinion.
Not the dearest hand held tool, but I've got a Blue Point kit thats approx 15 years old..Never done good enough flares with it using Kunifer..
Using a Sykes Bench mounted proper flare tool, then yes no problem
Something wrong with it then mate, I have a Sykes as well and its a Rolls Royce but even my little Moprod portable tool will flare Kunifer perfectly, And they are a cheap little flaring tool !!!
Sorry to resurrect an aging thread, but does anyone know of a supplier for coated steel brake pipe, as a roll in 3/16" or 4.75mm?
Well if originallity you want you had better make it look like a viva or maybe before that a mangle or even earlier a horse drawn plough !!It's not about price. It's only for my vectra but I have an originallity complex
It's not about price. It's only for my vectra but I have an originallity complex and wanted it to look standard. If I replace every rusty pipe now with steel the car will be in China long before they go again. Unless I keep it until its a classic haha.
Stainless must be even harder to flare than mild, and I think that would start to get costly.
I sell & use Stainless brake pipe all the time and although its a bit tougher to flare and bend than kunifer its still fairly easy to do, its a specially double annealed stainless so much much softer, You can't use normal stainless tube as it cracks due to it being hard.
How much does a roll of stainless cost langy?
I use both copper & Kunifer.
Kunifer only for "keepers" and copper for quick fix on bangers that are near the end of their life as still got a big roll of it. Made a copper pipe for a mate to use on his MKII Escort (years ago when it was a banger ) and the flare sheared off after a while - maybe due to vibration. One thing I've read about copper pipes is you need to secure to vehicle at shorter fixing points than steel or Kunifer.
