Ouch the motors a mess, Im building a special myself.

Its a 79 husqvarna cr frame with an xt600 motor shoe horned in. Hence the reason for the need of a welder, frame needed to meet mr hacksaw. Now need to meat mr welder. Was going to braze but gas set up to much out lay for the amount I would use.

Your build is looking mega though, will be keeping my eye on it thanks.

How did you fabricate those neat flanges?

chopped a bit of 10mm stainless plate I had into a squarish shape....bunged them in a four jaw and bored them out, the rest I just scribed, milled the flats the rounded off bits on a linisher...................wish I had a CNC sometimes, but that's like cheating

CNC does seem like cheating but it's always fascinating to watch. I used the rotary table on my mill to bore some 8mm plate, came out quite well. Your Tarozzi rearsets reminded me of a set one of my mates fitted on his Kawasaki back in the 80's, first corner he managed to get them down on sheared the peg clean off they were so brittle!

Ditto on my LeMans3. The replacements were folding though.

judging by the low ground clearance on it, if I manage to get the tarozzi's on the deck the rest of me and the bike is sure to follow

Have been making some progress on the exhaust this weekend....

found an old Stainless pipe socket to use as the clamp seal around the header flange, machined it to size and tacked it in place...

used my little jig to make up a silencer bracket then fixed it into position......

front header pipe all tacked up ready for final welding.....

next onto the rear cylinder........

bit more tricky this one as its got to pass through the frame, over, then under the swingarm before re-joining the front header from the side. I'm using some old mandrel bends left over from a car exhaust I made a few years ago

made a start, but unfortunately run out of weekend.........

fwiw, for the zorst welds, if your TIG has pulse, have a play with that if you haven't already done so. I have no real experience of it but I just got a new TIG and its got pulse, so I had a quick play and it seems to help in producing an even bead, but I found feeding the rod in a bit awkward so I cheated (I suppose) by using the laywire technique.
I have not had time to have a serious play, and TBH I'm still faffin about with HF start and 4T so am in the complete novice bracket, but it seemed to me like it could help to get a nice looking bead-but dunno for sure.
The whole project is to my taste, the look is spot on for me, only thing different I would do is fit flat bars for the flattrack/streettracker look.
You'll have to get her down to the ACE Cafe when she's finished.

cheers. will have a bit of practice before I commit to sticking it together. my TIG has a pulse function, not really used it in anger. dug it out from the depths of the garage a few weeks ago, took me an hour to remember how to use it !!!

ACE café eh?? would love to one day, but a bit of a trip up the M4 that one !!!

got the rear wheel centered and fitted into its home position. had to do a bit of fettling to the sprocket mounting studs first. these had to removed (after welding nuts on them) then shortened. This gave me enough clearance on the swingarm, and allowed the sprockets to line up pretty good and tyre to be centralised along the bike axis.

made up some alloy spacers, and its looking good.

cracked on with mounting the R1 rear caliper. bit more head scratching with this one as it needed to be adjustable fore and aft to allow for the chain tension. need to make up a nice chunky tie rod for the rose joints but that should work a treat.

ha ha..........changes by the week !!!

either yellow or white with the classic Yam stripes down the center of the tank??? I'm going to try and mould a seat hump cowl as well so that will add a bit more colour.

something on these lines???
