Methanol is quite tricky to get in ASDA filling stations though!!

Thanks...........yeah been thinking ahead, another bike maybe a lightweight single cylinder 500 - 650cc thing??? If I can find the right starting bike. Was looking at XS650's but they are rare and quite pricey.

Oh, I dunno; I'd quite happily swap you my old XS for that up there... Just to keep you occupied and happy, like.

JAP horticultural engines are fairly cheap, 650cc single cylinder side valve, as found on Howard rotavotors.

I have 2 in the workshop plus a British Junior engine still attached to a rotovator.

Picture is not of mine but the same engine, the British Junior is 600cc.
Both the JAP and the BJ have a pumped oil system from a separate tank, the pump is external on the JAP engine, on the end of the crank.
They also have magneto ignition.

The old sidevalves don't make much power though. There was a record breaker many years ago who was using them when tuned up for record attempts, getting 100mph out of an old bsa m20 is no easy task.

I'm not sure I'd want to go that fast on something with no brakes!!!
I sold a complete rotavator with a JAP engine to a friend of mine, OllyO, who comes on here occasionally. He is collecting the parts together for a bike build, last I heard he had the gearbox and a girder frame.
