I was half expecting "You have no idea what you're getting yourself into...".
WHO SAID THAT?????
I was half expecting "You have no idea what you're getting yourself into...".
My idea of design using 6inch plastic pipe and car speakers for cheapness and simplicity
I've seen so called Gainclone amplifiers made from LM3875 or similar chips, to my untrained eye, they seem perfect for me. What do you think?
I know there's a lot to it but I'm not expecting an absolutely amazing speaker. Would it be that bad if I don't do any anything fancy to the case, just make a box to hold everything with two big holes to poke speakers through?
My quotes where not for him to build an actual isobaric but to show the phasing principalNO! You need to close off one end. Please read my posts and your own quoted material again!
for looks(but then why bother with a grille?)
The flagship of the a-Class subwoofer family, the formidable as-418 installs four custom-engineered, 18-inch drivers into a compact enclosure comparable in size to most dual-18-inch subwoofer designs. Drivers are configured into a pair of front-to-front, isobaric (push-pull) configurations. The direct radiation from each front driver is combined with the output of the companion rear driver in a tuned vented enclosure. This Compound Force design enables more output and less distortion, while at the same time delivering four 18’s in an enclosure no larger than a typical dual 18-inch subwoofer.
I don't mind, it's quite interesting to be honest.I'll bow out now as I don't want to start cluttering up maker's thread.
I've got an emergency light that charges when it has power and illuminates for 4 hours (I think) when the power goes, the battery and charging circuit could be "borrowed" from that.Batteries - burglar alarm backup stuff should give you some time without going massive and heavy. Are there any 12v cordless power tools you could "yoink" the batteries from? These things are fairly tolerant of voltage so I'd bet you could run it from a 14v Clarke cordless drill battery or similar if you could put your hands on one that holds charge within your budget
I need to see what I've got kicking around in the way of hifi speakers, I think I've got a pair with working woofers but dead tweeters (the amp had a button on it, "source direct" I think, I pressed it and it ripped the cone away from the surround). I've also got some Boston rear presence speakers and some Panasonic computer speakers. I'll have a look and report back with my findings. For speakers I'd be looking for a set from an old house Hi-Fi - nothing fancy and therefore probably free. I'd even be looking to leave them in their existing casing and just fasten them together with that amp unit screwed to the top. If we want to go all pretty then yes look at getting the amp inside with just the front face exposed. If you want to go mad and make a box do it from wood and line it with carpet or felt - a hard material will result in a very harsh and "tinny" sound which is probably the problem with the Beats stuff (hard plastic case).
If it wasnt for discussion's such as this, we would still be using two tin cans and a bit of wet string
!!
isobaric design
Paracord.what ? you mean we have moved on ? has the string been replaced with some fancy nylon or similar
EH!! ---------you'll have to speak up I'm a little hard of understanding.what ? you mean we have moved on ? has the string been replaced with some fancy nylon or similar
Hi I have looked at that little amp before, are they ok and does the remote work ok is heat a problem?? 200amp ---------HUM!!
don't go there low oxygen cable, yet another gimmick, sure it may make it last longer but that's itEH!! ---------you'll have to speak up I'm a little hard of understanding.
Yep they are usin string with low oxygen copper in it now.
I can play with what I have laying around for free, if it's crap then no harm done, I can take what I've learnt and buy better speakers.the problem you have using old stuff you have lying around is that you wont achieve the bass you want, those speakers were simply not designed to produce good, loud deep bass and it takes more power to produce bass then mid or trebble
My active speakers I got for holiday, the ones I linked too earlier http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/QTX-Sound...647?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item20e10b7fa7 have built in amps and are fantastic on 5" drivers, the problem you have using old stuff you have lying around is that you wont achieve the bass you want, those speakers were simply not designed to produce good, loud deep bass and it takes more power to produce bass then mid or trebble
