Even though this project is dead, I have another question. A box of old electronic crap I'd stashed away in the rafters fell down and showered everything with components, amoungst it I found a STK4132II stereo amplifier IC, are they any good? I might still build a little amp, just for fun.

Have a search online for the datasheet for it. One of the manufacturers should have it online somewhere. Toshiba, Philips etc. all used to have good online repositories for datasheets. Don't know if that's still the case though.

I didn't think of that. The datasheet has loads of information on it, including external components.

Looking at the data sheet they are a load of pants.

OK here is an idea why don't you buy one of those Naim amp clone kits. There is loads of threads on forums on tweaking and playing with the kits. BTW don't kid yourself after building it you have a Naim amp but with all the tweaks/mods people are doing on them you can get something pretty decent.

Because I don't need one, I only thought about this because I found the IC. I've got better things to spend my money on.

I suggested that because it sounded like you were interested in this kind of thing and those kits aren't expensive and there are large groups of people spending there hobby time building and modifying them. So there is plenty to learn by getting involved and talking to others.

People have been adding DAC's and all sorts.

Yes, it would be interesting, I might do it someday.

I've got something to keep me busy now; I found a flyback transformer, if it works I'm going to have a go at a plasma speaker.

Those STK amplifiers were used by a lot of TV manufacturers and could be fond in a lot of less expensive hifi gear at one time.
