Today I got my nickel rods for repairs to the lathe doors. Made a few orders on eBay for bits. And started the task of painting the letters in the doors. I used a thin layer of enamel primer. This will help adhering and give a nice good finish . soon as it's dry I can make a start on the background colour.

First coat on the border. My ol hands ain't as steady as they use to be but so far so good.

@spencer 427 When I did the name on the Myford, I used a tip I picked up [might even been on here] using a roll of cloth, folded to produce a pad which could be dabbed in paint, blotted a couple of times then dabbed over the raised lettering.

Took a couple of goes to produce sufficient coverage but no 'overpaint' from my equally shaky old hand.

I have some very fine model paint brushes .i should be able to get a half sensible finish. If I can't then I will look at the method you used.

Only problem I can see is the gold is supposed to be enamel gloss....but it's flat .no gloss.

Today I am making a start on repairing the cracked door. Nothing to major but needs a v out and weld up. One thing I did do wrong was I ground the v to deep on the lip creating a slag trap. But just managed to squeeze the rod in.

Done. Now prep for paint.

Starting painting the background on the gear change wheel case. Am happy with how it's looks. A right tosser to paint.

Had a delivery today. Hammer drive rivets and a small piece of copper sheet. Door is in primer.

Things are moving a bit quicker now. My spindle grease will be here next week so I can rebuild the headstock.

One job I did forget to do was the oil supply tube for the tumbler reverse. So took it all out and made a start on the copper tube. What a faffing job. Will finish it off tomorrow.

Oil supply tube done. A horrible job. But that's how it was originally.

Couple of little jobs to do before I assemble the tumbler mechanism. End of the shaft has a grease nipple. The threads are shot. So drilled and tap a new thread with a new nipple. Job done.

All in and sorted. Not overly happy with the copper tube. But it is what it is.

On the list of things to do. Headstock pulley cleaned and painted inside. Big door being painted. Shan't bore ya to death with all the pictures of that. But that copper tube is doing my head in. Will alter thi

s at a later date.

Today my list is to clean up the spindle collars. These have had a hammer. Nothing a good file session can't sort. And make a new locking washer. This was someone's vain attempt to lock both collars together. Why I don't know. Will figure out a different idea to that. I will also make a tool that fits the slots on the collars properly.
