Bought a generator, recognise it?

It bled out really easily, I took a video of the spray pattern, but cannot work out how to get it out of my phone, looked ok BUT no smoke from exhaust, plus oil looks to be full of diesel, I suspect it is not atomising the fuel under pressure and is just flooding the piston, OR the rings are knackered, it has compression but I cannot check how much, engine kicks on the rubber mounts as it cranks over,

I have a diesel compression tester kit that you can borrow if needed.

New nozzles in the injectors would probably help but test the spray pattern first, as above.

They need to be warm / at temperature in my experience for a correct reading.

Nobody has mentioned the devil's deodorant so far.

I once had a Mk1 Ford Transit with a York diesel engine, the easy start was piped in from the cab............

There should be a manual decompressor lever on the head.
The Yanmar starter does struggle a bit to turn this motor over without setting the decomp first (auto-releases) - so if it spins over easily without it, then your compression has gone fishing

With the decompressor operated it spins over like a goodun, when you release it there is a big difference, it has no pull start so not easy to get a feel for it.

With that 45-deg slash cut style enclosure and the L100 engine, I'd be thinking thatis a genuine Pramac P6000 from a few years back (as that canopy designs superceded a while ago).
10hp motor and 6kva, 4.8kw peak claimed output when new.
Pretty decent little sets, but biggest market for these small diesels is Tool Hire Firms and Contractors - so they do tend to have a hard life, get knocked about and used by people who don't owner, so don't take care of it.
At 60-quid though (closer to 3k for a new equivalent that's not Chinese) - it had to be worth a punt, and might well be worth spending a few quid on.
E.P.Barrus are the UK Distributors for Yanmar engines (or were last time I checked) - so getting all parts fir the engine shouldn't be too hard.

If it costs me up to say £300----400 all in I will be happy, very happy, reluctant to use Chineeeeeese parts but until I can work out the issue it is hard to compare prices, shame is that I can probably buy a replica injector and pump for less than the cost of getting mine tested!
It has a hire firm look about it, in decent shape and does not look to have had much use, forgot to check the hours meter, digital so was blank until I fitted the battery, well either digital or out to lunch.

date on the fuel tank sticker is late 2013.

If I recall, the stop solenoid could go on those motors (pricey too for a genuine part), plus Yanmar have so many variants identifying part nos can be a hassle.
The Stop is opened when you switch on the ignition.
Ah... one thing - the controller. If its the module it most likely is, then when you turn it on, a row of I think 4 small red Leds lights up in turn.
Try to start it before this sequence... and it just cranks.
Leave it a second or two after the last LED has lit then gone off.... and it'll just crank (as its looking for oil pressure by then and has gone into fault).
It's a strange foible of the controller, that Pramac don't seem to mention anywhere.
So, if trying to start it with this module, watch it run-through it's test procedure, then turn to crank - otherwise you might think something is duff when it isn't .

Note there is a low fuel shutdown as well... so you might have issues there. You might need to frig the senders to fool the module it has fuel and oil pressure.

if oil is full of diesel I would suspect lift pump if it has one.

If the compression is reasonable but no smoke from the exhaust I’d remove the rocker cover and check valve clearances and make sure the push rod hasn’t jumped out on the inlet valve.

The stop solenoid on the injection pump has a solid 12v so all the above seem to be OK, and I can get fuel spraying out of the injector, one nozzel was blocked so I have stripped the injector and it is in my ultrasonic as I type.

he asked £60.00 to cover the work he had done, ign. switch and starter solenoid, then he said he would drop it over as well, sadly only 1/3rd tank of white diesel, and NO battery..................

all good, oil drained, maybe not as diesely as first thought, but well overfull and some diesel, air filter and exhaust off tomorrow.

Took the engine out today, took all day! found the rings stuck in the piston plus top ring broken, oh and a bit of piston loose!

Thinking some **** had tried to run it on petrol?

Probably detonation has broken the ring land. Does the top of the piston look a little hen-pecked?

I guess you have found the engine manual online - Google 'L100N service manual'.

It is also worth sniffing around Stephill Generators site (in the archived documents part) as you may find a manual for a similar machine.
