Blue 5 pin 3 Phase plug? (Blast Cabinet Extractor)

Lots of obscurer but standard plugs around got a big bag full I have acquired over the years green, 110v 3 phase, some high-frequency aircraft-related, purple 24v, all sorts.

Theoretically, it would be the correct plug to use between a motor and VFD on a single phase to 3 phase VFD set up in the UK.

VFD is a possible application

High frequency purple (nope) corrige GREEN

Clock designation is a safety detent which has 2 functions avoid to use a plug in a different socket and lock the plug in place

Thanks for the replies guys it looks like I’ve got some digging to do.

I know my ramp is 415v 3 phase. I’ll check the extractor motor and see whether it’s switchable or not.
If not I’ll have to see if a 240v single phase to 240c 3 phase converter exists.

Could it be 240v permanent live to the unit and the two spare pins for a switchline for fan run on or some other function

Just look at the motor plate.

The pulse airs might run on a weird voltage or even DC though.

Ever been in a power station? Same thing but with a few thousand PSI. Catches the ash in the flue.

any single to 3 phase inverter will do this for you because they don't step voltage up from the incomer.
That or find a 415v to 240v 3 phase transformer.

In saying that, you have dealt comprehensively with three of the five wires in the plug.

I think we can all work out what to do with the green and yellow one.

But you still have to tell him the solution for the fifth wire, the one marked 'N'. That is the problem child here.

It's a neutral... it's a 0v return path for any single phase current... it can go back into the incomer N. It might only be needed for control, anyway.

As mentioned, look at the motor plate or even post a pic if not sure.
It should list voltages, amps, KW, and even if the motor should be in star or delta configuration for the applied voltage.
This should give a better idea of what we are dealing with.
Your plug states 230V 3 Phase so no way I would be trying to connect it to 415V 3 phase without a lot more info.
Is there a socket in the rest of the machine specially for the extractor?
I’m not familiar with the type of machine but am very familiar with commercial/industrial machine electrics, it’s me job.
Can you share the Gumph somehow, wiring diagram maybe.
This should have the info on it.

A 230V VFD will be the simplest way to get the motor to work at the intended voltages.

There’s only one plug for the two units. Power goes into the box on the back of the blast cabinet via the blue plug then it goes back out to the extractor.
Irritatingly the plug is marked for 240v but the box has a 415v sticker on it.

I raided the filing cabinet and found the wiring diagram. It’s all Greek to me.

Unfortunately that’s still no help. It has diagrams for 220 and 415.

You need to disregard the plug. Inspect the wiring of the motors and match it up to the correct drawing. That will tell you if the unit is wired for 220 or 415v three phase.

That motor can be wired both ways, for 220 or 415, but I don’t know anything about wiring Three phase electric motors so can’t tell you what it’s wired for.

it does appear to be wired star for 415v
