I'm happy with that, don't ever envisage welding anything of that size and if I was planning to do so regularly I think I'd be looking for a more substantial machine. It does show the versatility of the machine that it can even tackle a job like that yet still be able to do the other end of the scale and weld thin sheet steel with the mig. For the price I don't think its at all bad.

I agree, I am more than happy with mine. I have bought some rods (Lidl ones ) and will have a try with them to see if the old skill comes back after 20 odd years of not using a stick!

Forgot to add that I got a hobbyweld cylinder, regulator and 5kg of 0.8 wire, working a treat as a conventional mig welder, gave up on the gasless as it was never going to be as good.

Very poor, spitting and popping, terrible penetration. Ended up finishing the job with arc. Proper mig with gas is definitely the best option with the blackline.

I have left mine on gas as I have a dedicated gasless SIP 170 for that. Good to know it is not worth trying though

Friend of mine has one with a 1m torch that’s permanently used for Ali repairs on boats. Reckons for quick patches on site you can’t beat it.

My 32amp commando socket is wired off the ring main, I know its not right but cant see a problem as its fused at 32 amps, wouldn't risk it off a spur. Runs my blackline flat out with no issues.

How low can you go

Had to weld a rusty exhaust to a bit of flexi, at about .5mm doesn’t get any thinner than the flexi. Still not on the lowest settings.

I've welded .5mm with my little mig and it was most likely even thinner as in your case , but I was using flux core

can confirm they're good welders, i have the rohr equivalent and it's done well so far on welding thin rusty metal, just found that it needs a better operator!
