Beware the mot tester

Ok this last one has a bad case of elephantitis as my welding instructor use to tell me, need to get a smaller torch for the Transteel. It’s is a full penatration weld just a very very ugly one which I’m not to happy about but it’s solid so it will do. Metal was welding too wasn’t the greatest either. Any tips greatly appreciated.

Hind sight should probably tacked it with the mig then stick welded it in place would have made a better job of it.

the one i had at work you could wind the gearstick around and not know what gear you were in

Perm any one from four! That was only because the plastic ball joints wore and the long gearstick exaggerated the slop.

Small UK islands are MOT exempt due to the fact they cannot sustain two MOT test centres as officially you have to be able to have a choice of testing centre to present your car for an MOT. When taxing vehicle you used to have to sign a disclaimer that the island has no bridge / causeway / RORO ferry to “enable the vehicle to conveniently be driven to the UK mainland”. Nowadays when taxing the vehicle online it knows from the registered keepers address that it does not require an MOT to be taxed.

Some small UK islands are also exempt from requiring a CBT to legally drive a moped /125cc on learner license.

Best of all it is also possible to obtain a full UK driving license by passing a test on one of these islands, which potentially have no road markings / road signs / traffic lights.

That might just be the wheel bearing and very common, the ABS sensor is built into the bearing assembly, Its the passenger side one from memory that the computer uses for the speedo signal

That is correct, the sensor on the bearing used to be available separately, I have a spare one that Jack K is welcome to, but postage would kill it. I have also got a pair of front bearing assemblies, but they are for five stud wheels. Astras have gone now so no use to me.

While not perfect got to a point I am finally happy to stop chasing the rot at. Why do manufacturers insist on all this caulking and foam crap that encourages vehicles to rot. I’m assuming it’s production related and vehicles are spot not seam welded together and for noise reduction. View attachment 399549

That's why you need to drive one that was manufactured before the bastids worked that out!

I am probably getting rid of the astra soon anyway so I am no longer going to fix it, It was a temporary vehicle whilst I got my project going. I was going to wait a few more months before getting rid of it as my project car isn't reliable yet however it might be going sooner unless a new battery fixes what happened with it just yesterday.

The astra is the backup vehicle which will soon be replaced with a Jowett Bradford (not going or registered yet). If any of the other cars aren't working like my "finished" project which is a 1986 mini then the Bradford will be used.

A lot of the northern isles are exempt from learner drivers being accompanied. You should have a provisional but don’t need a full license holder with you.

Same with my BMW bike, the ABS module seized up and would cost more than the bike was actually worth to replace, so it was removed, and the bike converted to the non ABS version. Very common apparently.

The 1150 Beemers with the daft servo-assisted ABS systems were horrible to use and about as reliable as a chocolate welding torch.
So much so that when I bought my (04) Rockster in 07, I deliberately bought a non-ABS variant.

I did not know that but it makes perfect sense.

Maybe those lights do not always get checked rigidly by all MOT testers for illumination

Because if they do, there will be no point in 'disabling' the lights.

If you where really intent then you could put a time delay relay in. My dad had some really compact ones that would work well just soldered 8nto the circuit
