I said last month that a lot of decent cars in the UK are getting scrapped due to warming lights failing MOT, no surprise that it happens other places. One of mine & one of my Ex's did exactly that, fixing the ABS light would cost more than the car was worth (cost was going to be £2k + fitting & recoding the ECU when the cruise control / ABS pump on my BMW died). I can see why some cars get driven with no MOT
Same with my BMW bike, the ABS module seized up and would cost more than the bike was actually worth to replace, so it was removed, and the bike converted to the non ABS version. I used to work just outside Leeds many years ago, one of the local MOT places lost their licence for doing mail order MOT's for ex-pats who lived in Spain/Portugal, the cars were supposed to come back to UK every year for MOT but some didn't

Same as in South Africa. There are some right dodgy vehicles on the roads.
That might just be the wheel bearing and very common, the ABS sensor is built into the bearing assembly, Its the passenger side one from memory that the computer uses for the speedo signal
Had that on a transit. It’s not an optical ring, it’s an inductive arrangement- looks like an oil seal.
That's what everyone says but the OBD codes show ABS communication failure or something like that.
Mine did the same, intermittent but a good wiggle of the steering wheel side to side while driving sometimes sorted it for a bit, got a SKF replacement for £26.00 delivered so im sorted!
Barra is the closest to me that fits that category, no test station so island only cars escape MOT. 1000 odd folk there so not too small, not sure what the sizes are of the Northern isles that are exempt.
