Best option for rent free gas (currently on BOC Rented)

Same here. At the end of our bottle and hardly using any atm. The BOC rental has gone up a crazy amount. Am I right that they refund the balance of the year when you take it back?

They do but watch them are thicker than two scaff planks.

twice they have got my bills wrong. And to finish a few back i decided to return my cylinder as i hardly use it and didnt want to pay the rental as the period was up a they just sent me the rental bill.
Well i returned the cylinder before the end of the period. two weeks after i got a full rental bill of £80 odd. I tried to call them but no chance.

I did a message system thing, told them i returned the cylinder. and thye find now i had and put a hold on payment request, and as i was 3 weeks past the rental date they are sending me a new bill, about £5 i guess.

If i hadnt questinod it i would of had to pay the full rental.

I dont know why after 10 years with them i bothered with BOC . theer are other around but jsut the outright payment is a lot. Hobby weld etc. just no rental.

If i need gas though i dont do a lot now, if at all now. I can borrow a cylinder from work.

According to their websites there are:
Hobbyweld - Inveraray 40 mins away
SGS - Oban - 50 mins away

So could do either of them, assume they are the main supplier options?

im on SGS now for for the
argon and argon mix
get it from d+a motor factors in handy 20 litre
bottles even deliver it
still expensive 20 litre 200 bar argon £ 125
and you are around £100
for your initial charge

sgs dont do acetylene though still need to go to air products /albee for that . and its very spendy ihave the small oxy acetylene set up on the gas fluxer

probably could use oxy propane for most of the brazing jobs anyway

the days of the free little welding jobs are done now

just to add in to the mix i use stright co2 last i bought a bottle was a pub gas gas supplyer was £22 no rent i just phoned him up he said hed be round my way on wensday left £22 in letter taped to bottle and left the shed open for the day when i was home i had a new one

i dont do much welding now the bottle has been here now for got to be 5 years its easy to carry so muct be getting empty reminds me i must phone him see if hes still going

yes yes i know its not as nice for car welding and you realy need the good stuff but for 2mm and above its harder to work with but do able and i can get good welds out of it(at least as much of a welder expertise can do)
