The problem with putting barrier cream on is that you need to but it on Before you start. I don't meant to do anything, but end up tinkering and getting covered in oil etc.

had a tub for ages wet hands before a small blob work in well, don't work on dirty things a lot any more but the keg has lasted well, I see people dipping hands in cleaner what a waste you only need a small amount

Well the barrier cream bit is not being girlie, just makes it a lot easier to clean your hands after you finish the job.

When I was living at with my ma and pa, after working on whatever rusty old shed I had in the driveway, I would use swarfega or fairy liquid to get the worst off then go and have a shower before heading out to the pub. After the shower I used to put a spot of Atrixo hand cream from the big tub on the bathroom window ledge on as the old hands were as rough as a badgers'. That was until I found out that my pa used the Artrixo as pile ointment , evidently far better than prep H in his opinion.

The cheapest washing up liquid you can get from Tesco. There's hardly any difference to the most expensive hand cleaner I can see. The stuff with grit in is a bit better, and smells nicer though.

Wurth hand cleaner for me - available in tribal size 4 litre bottles or smaller 350 ml ones. Contains pumice stone and gets ingrained grease off in a way that's hard to believe. When I can remember I wear Touch 'n Tuff nitrile gloves - much stronger than ordinary nitrile gloves, so much so that I can re-use them 2 or 3 times.

I try to remember to wear nitrile gloves now. (My hands are shot with dermatitis at 32...partly due to naturally dry skin, partly due to cleaning petrol pumps at 16, didn't find out till a few months in that the bottle of cleaner had a requirement for gloves to avoid damage to skin / dermatitis...should have sued my employer if I had known at the time...

Best brand thus far are gliders (cheap enough for a box from ebay) bit thicker than most so they seem to last longer. comfits aren't bad either, albeit thinner

look into it may still be possible just like the asbestos claims, employers liability certificates have to be kept by law now for 40 years

I use swarfega orange coz its cheap and ok for normal daytime washing, IE clean ish hands,to stop getting black everywhere, but for CLEAN hands I use Astral NON SOLV about 4x price swarfega, it is white and cleans my hands spotless and the white tends to make my cuticles look cleaner, because that is the hard bit no matter how much you scrub.
I cant be doin with gloves but then again as youve seen I'm a bare back man.

i used to use that too also used washing powder but that cracks up my hands
now use manista lemon i think works well but even clean engine oil and sugar work too but must rewash with soap and water

if like me you can find grease in an hermetically clean envaroioument, what's people's thorts on best hand cleaners? Any home made concoctions?

Go to your local AnE or hospital... And grab one of them anti bacterial hands wash bottles u see at every door...few blobs of tht n a paper towel... Honestly mate works wonders...

I worked at a a garage for a few months when I left school, the only thing available to us was the green Swarfega. Used to use that & dip you hands in the sawdust that was used for oil spills. I think that's probably why I hate the green so much, reminds me of those days, trying to get yourself clean enough to go home on the bus, stinking of the paraffin in the cleaner.

All for £2/15/0 a week! £2.75 in new money.
