Some graphite grease and some Lucas green grease duly ordered.
I was thinking about removing and refitting the tyres myself but after watching a few videos showing what happens when they go off I decided to take them up the road to the professionals. Geoff up at North Canterbury Tyres said that after fitting truck tyres for 20 years they still frighten him! He asked me to keep the rims etc in sets so I marked them with the grinder
The hubs I took also to the experts and Daniel at Amberley Truck and Auto removed the bearings for me. Again a job that I could not have done, not having a press or huge circlip pliers. The outer bearings were damaged when they came out and the inners are quite worn. They look horribly expensive...
These hubs do not have grease, they run in the axle oil so cleaning and de-greasing the hubs is quite easy.
And put (hopefully) the last lot of blasting in the trailer.

big truck, big fixes...I watch the maintenance crew for a ski resort in the summer rebuild the grooming machines...they replace all the bearings out of all the hubs every other year....then rebuild the tracks every other year as well....giant bearing, even bigger hubs....they use engine hoists to move things around....

I think I've seen that one, it used to be parked in the south city, Maybe St Asaph or Tuam Street but gone now I think. I think the long 6-wheel configuration is standard. There's a chap in the North Island with a house-truck built on one, he's a mobile blacksmith and we used to see him at various horse shows. 6.5L might be a transplant because it does not match the engine sizes I know of although there is one at 383 CID (or thereabouts). Isuzu 6BD engines are a popular swap.
that truck is crying out for a 2nd steering axle on the front to balance out the look of it!

Yes South City and Addington was where I used to hang around, close to the old bus station after the quake, all changed again now of course. If you missed the Lincoln bus it would take an hour for the next one so I'd go for a walk.

I have two weeks off over Xmas so should be able to get on with some TK jobs and play with the TIG. I might use it to build a welding trolley. You can buy a sack truck for $20 and then adapt it; I did the same for my blaster -
The TK is stuck in the shed waiting for wheel bearings at the moment

A very merry Christmas to everyone!
I've been getting the doors and glass fitted.
Luckily one of my neighbours is an auto-glass fitter so he came and fitted the front and back windows; I'm glad he did because it was quite a job getting the windscreen to fit. Apparently it is not unusual for truck cabs to drop slightly when the windows are out and this is what had happened. We ended up using a scissor jack and a length of wood to push the centre up slightly.
The doors took a ludicrous number of attempts to get assembled! Every part has to be put in in exactly the wight order and several times I ended up finding that the piece I had in my hand should have been fitted first and them whole door had to be stripped again.
The nice new door handles can also be found on an Aston Martin DB5 I am told, so there you go. Only the driver's side has a key lock and this is a simple thing that just locks the button. This means that if you locked the door from the inside there would be no way of opening it with the key. Bedford overcame this by brazing up the internal lock on the driver's side so that it can't be used! One of the many strip-downs of that door was because I thought the lock was jammed.

I rescued one identical to that for carrying forklifts that was stuck in snow, in St Asaph in Northwales UK, right outside the cathederal about 30yrs ago !!! but it was a KM as that one above is I think I dont believe they made a tk 6 wheeler coz the tk 's were only 7.5 tons well in uk.

The streets in Christchurch are all named after bishoprics and I'd often wondered where St Asaph cathedral was and now I know!
I thought the KM was the same cab but on a wider chassis; the mudguards stick out further. Some of the KMs came with Detroit V6 two-stroke diesels. There is a travelling fair from further north that have a couple of real beauties

hum yes could be, I used to work on a whole fleet of km's and tk's though that was 47yrs ago so the memory is not what it was.
What I do remember was doing water pumps on straight 6cyl ones working through the square cab's gear lever rubber boots between the seats
some of the k's had only narrow arches though.
