i went down this route for my t4 van as its a big thing in the dub world,,but once i looked into it know one could tell me a deffo off set answer & to be honest ive fitted bilstein & eibachs for one thing & one thing only to make my van handle best it can & fitting banded would knacker the driving,i wanted to know whether its legal or not,,see if this makes sense buddy cause it made none to meI was a little puzzled over the earlier comment about banding rear wheels on a front wheel drive car. You'd band all four wheels regardless of FWD, RWD or AWD. I can't think why you'd run different tyres front to rear.
As I mentioned earlier, it's primarily about the look. In the mini world, rally replicas use steel wheels, group 5 flares, rear spot lights etc. It's what I have planned for my MkII mini. There are alloy wheels which ape the Cooper reverse rims, but they have a really scary offset as they enable you to run standard mini 8.4" disks with a 10" rim. The wheels sit outside the brake disks. Your wheel bearings would last maybe 500 miles?
as far as i know banded wheels are illegal in the uk
Can't say I like the look, but then I'm an old git. I'm just wondering what would happen if it could be shown that an accident was your fault and your car was wearing banded wheels. How big a book would be thrown at you.
(guess which French manufacturer can achieve such a thing )
