That did cross my mind. The only ultrasound being mentioned is in resus and they are packed with ambulances stacked outside...just about to turn 10 hours in the waiting room now which is par for the course here

At least they didn't just give you some tablets and kick you out, I went into A&E with breathing difficulties, doc had a listen to my chest and said it's probably just a chest infection so anti-biotics will sort it, but we'll do an x-ray to confirm it, I was waiting for the results of the X-ray when the doc came in looking a bit worried and said you'd better come through to resus as the X-ray showed a collapsed lung!.

The ultrasound in resus is for finding veins mainly.

You either need an MRI or no imaging, if no trauma or suspicion of osteoporotic collapse type injury an Xray is actually no help.

So, im now out. He said xray show no signs of spinal damage or spinal cord damage which is good. It did however show what he has called an anomaly in my right hip that will need checking out at a later date.

I have been given crutches, 3 days of diazepam and 7 days of cocodamol, a referral to physio if o feel i want it and a letter for my GP to arrange a follow up.

Been given a list of things to avoid until better, a few exercises and an info packet about back injuries.

He said he suspects it is muscular, on the more severe end of the scale so don't expect miracles over the next few days but by the time the diazepam has run out I should see some improvement. If not go straight back with the referral document he gave me to be seen again

He did say my lower back appeared to be very tense, which i will admit I have noticed in the past. He said that it could be that the muscles have just given from constantly being tight and tensed up so once healed go for a follow up to try and find any underlying issues.

I will look into other avenues over the next few days but as for team sports the only thing that springs to mind is drinking and work place bullying.

If you have spare money tucked away then go and have a Ct scan at spires murryfield before you start getting stretched and pulled by a back doctor..think the private scan is about £550 and mine saved my life when i had bladder cancer, money well spent in mine and your case.

I would back this up, could be the best money you'll ever spend.

One last thing if you're on cocodamol - make sure you take a laxative with them, otherwise you will know what childbirth feels like, been there etc..

I had 30+ years of lower back pain, I was fortunate in that a had a personal friend (a lovely woman) who was an old school hands on Consultant Physio, but she was a bitch when sorting out peoples' joint/back problems but good. She kept me mobile for years, until I had spinal surgery about 8 years ago.

My advice:-
Rest, stretch gently, keep mobile and find a good private physio (not an NHS one, who just tells you what to do) who will manipulate your spine/lower back, well worth any money you need to invest....

I'm pretty sure my recent episode was a muscle tear. IMO that's better than disc/spine issues, but of course takes quite a while to heal.

The question is, what other factors contributed to it going?
Like you my back has been tense for ages, and I'd had a couple of lesser tweaks leading up to the big one.

Again, lack of correct exercise & movement, with some core strength exercise is likely to contribute.
I'm still being stupid & not doing core & flexibility exercises that I know I need to do, and that will help prevent repeats.

In my case the Chiropractor (as usual I didn't go to the Quack, as its an irritating stressful exercise in it being made clear that you're a not-wanted nuisance & here's several ways we are going to use to fob you off)..... reckons it's my left SI Pelvic joint mobility creating tension in my back - but .

Whatever, engaging core muscles & giving your lower back as much support & stability as well as flexibility can only be a good thing.

I'll second that! I think mine was breech

My neck went one night so badly that I thought I was paralyzed, I couldn't move from the shoulders down. After they refused to send an ambulance I finally managed to get in the car and was wheeled into the A&E by a porter at about 2 in the morning. Doc took one look at me and gave me some oral morphine which helped the pain but told me he thought it was a muscle spasm and he was right. The pain was much better over the next few days. I still don't know what caused it.

Taking Magnesium tablets offsets the effect of the Codeine - and has potential other benefits also.
I always take both when needed

your job won't be helping your back problems. I was told by my osteo that you shouldn't be in the same place for more than twenty minutes at a time. Now, realistically, that's not always possible. I don't know the layout of your cab, but do you have a suspended seat in there? Try adjusting that. It took me a fair few months to get my FLT seat in just the right position for it to be really comfortable. Biggest problem was there were three of us using the truck over 24 hours and I had to adjust it at the start of my shift every time.

Eat it in the kitchen ? Can of soup and two slices you don't even need a dish.
