So.
Vehicle presented with whining noise on saturday at speeds exceeding 50mph.
Had noticed oil leak on passenger side wheel arch two weeks ago, been too busy to ring ford and argue, let alone be without vehicle.
Removal of FABRIC! engine/sump protector shows lots of oil soaked in. Also 6 missing screws (reckon that's just transits in epping again).
Removal of wheel and close inspection of driveshaft (replaced october/november 2023 with clutch by allen ford) revealed leak from driveshaft oil seal.
Drained gearbox oil = 0.35L recovered.
Have just refilled with 2.2L of 75w FE as per @premmington recommendation.

id have videoed it myself and presented it at the ford place
before i hit them with shoddy practice and an intent to damage said vehicle air filter damaged by use of ratchet gun failure to maintain vehicle to exceptable standared with due care and diligence

It's knowing who done it Gaz. And proving it.
The air filter isn't a massive concern, i can buy a new box in future if necessary.
My main worry now is a gearbox that has been loosing oil for 10,000 miles

My guessing is the penny pinching sods at ford did not replace oil seal when they done clutch and new driveshaft, hence slowly leaking until i had tyres changed an noticed, fast forward two weeks and now practically empty it started whining.

I would be doing the driveshaft seal soon - They not too bad to do! Buy a geniune Ford one - it is gods own work to get a pattern Febi one in.
It's a better than fair chance that it's not "The Dealer" per se, but the standard of work is massively dependent upon the spanner monkey (& what mood he's in) on the day.
Where I worked had a mechanic (about 31yo) that was perfectly capable & knew what he was doing..... but just how much he did, & how much care & detail seemed to vary massively day to day. Not really what you want in a mechanic!
Some says he'd go the full mile & do a spot-on job with all i's dotted & t's crossed, other's you knew he'd skipped seals, not replaced trays/covers or whatever.
Everything worked when it left the workshop - but that's not the same as it being done right.
I know one other mobile Fitter who for certain was cutting massive corners on field servicing of Plant. It wasn't hard to spot - he rarely returned with anything like enough waste oil, and other lads had come across brand new filters in the filter bins.
(He was clever though - you never saw a machine he'd "serviced" that didn't have clean filter canisters and the service date marked on, and he cosy-ed up to the clients so they thought he was great!
Personally I struggle with the idea of even a basic service being done by a garage - because the human factor provides far too many variables to know if you git what you paid for.

Basically you don't have the same rights as a business:commercial customer as a personal consumer.
Luckily the finance company were on my side and forced ford to sort it. Even got a £200 cheque from finance company to say sorry for all the drama.
We've had two vans via that finance company and they've been great to deal with.
