Spooky I was literally about to post the same thing! As a mate of mine says:
“If it flies, floats or f**ks - rent it, it’s cheaper in the long run”
I've always understood that phrase was coined by Howard Hughes. As a mate of mine says:
“If it flies, floats or f**ks - rent it, it’s cheaper in the long run”
We do this occasionally in the Greek Islands, but its not proper real sailing. No cold wet NorthSea spray, no rain running down your neck……nah its just not propa! If you like boating every now and then, go rent one, then, when it goes wrong, you've someone to phone, and it's not cheap, but you can pick and where you go.
Pics?Well I've got to win the prize for owning the biggest boat.
Cost me thousands, spent thousands and I don't even want to think how many hours, and sold it for a euro.
Don't go there.
Actually, I got myself a bit confused there, the speed limit of 12 Knots is between Wandsworth Bridge and Margaretness (just east of London City Airport), it's downstream of here that there is technically no speed limit.WhenWhere does it stop in the other direction ?
Stu
theres a few Russian yachts for saleThis thread is not helping my dream of owning a boat, though my ambitions only stretch as far as a fibreglass Tideway 12![]()

You're spot on, one of the last Crossfields boats and one of very few to be fitted with a motor since new. Built 1932 so not quite at the end of her working life yet I'd hope! I think I know the fella you're talking about, but he didn't own her as far as I remember. That boat posted by The Menace is a proper Morecambe bay prawner or "Nobby", lovely boats but as you found when they come to the end of their working lives they become a money pit. Then its time for a major rebuild which will consume quite a few oak & larch trees & a lot of skill from the guy or guys doing it not to mention money!
I wonder if she is the one that a friend acquired a while back? he is a boatbuilder at Ulverston.
As far as boats like the Op's photo, **** has dropped out of the market & fuel & marina costs have killed it.
Old small fibreglass yachts are now effectively worthless, a mate bought a 23 footer a few weeks ago for £150, He has simply chopped the bottom of the boat out rond the engine & lowered it down to the floor, worth it with a good vetus diesel, rest of it is being stripped for bits & chopped up into a skip.

In the opposite direction, it drops to 8 knots west (upstream) of Wandsworth Bridge.
That's got to be one of the ugliest planes I've seen.Spooky I was literally about to post the same thing!
Fancy one of these if I hit the main euromillions rollover jackpot
A Pilatus PC24 - the only exec jet that has STOL and can use dirt strips. A bargain at £11 million
