I'm in the middle of rewiring the house and starting to decorate, I have a Screwfix 2 line cheapo laser level, but really should have splashed the cash and gone for a 4 line unit but Bosch/Dewalt and Milwaukee ones are fortunes, so I present to you my new 4 line unit from Aliexpress......ordered on the 11th Oct arrived today by Evri from their UK warehouse.
Ok it doesn't have the feel/quality of the top three makes but seems reasonably well built and does have a alloy base plate.

I've checked it by marking the walls and moving it around the room all the marks line up, it beeps/flashes when it not level and takes a few seconds to settle when it is, 2 rechargeable batteries, comes with all the other bits n bobs and a 3 pin 13 amp style charging plug, all for less than £36.00 delivered.......providing it's looked after it seems value for the money.

So do I think AliExpress and Temu are OK.

Yep, provided you choose your purchases carefully and are willing possibly to bite the bullet that you might buy a pup....but so far I'm about £500+ up or down depending on your view......... ........

I bought the one from your link (HGLINE laser level), it was just delivered and would not turn on. The terminals on both of the batteries needed bending slightly to make contact with the tabs on the laser when you put the battery in. After that, it was working just fine. Can't beat it for the money.

Mine worked out of the box, the only problem I had was one of the small charger socket flaps fell off, no damage it probably wasn't seated properly.

I just unscrewed the battery case halves and pulled the small retaining cone in properly, no problem now, also the battery pack is fully serviceable not a sealed/welded item which makes a nice change these days.

Good quality for the money in my books .

You just need to turn off notifications for it. I have the app, but its notifications are off.

I have all notifications, etc turned off but if you click on a temu link in your browser it always launches the app.

Lots of info online about similar issues from other people. Problems with random temu ads popping up and people finding temu spyware on their phone.
People have had to do a factory reset to remove the app completely from their phone

I would suggest that you DO NOT install the Temu app.

Most of our carbides at the machine shop came from AliExpress
They don't last as long as sandvik etc but they get the job done cheaply, and if you use them properly they work great.
I've got tons of stuff from AliExpress, carburetors, diaphragms, you name it.
Airsoft stuff, fishing stuff, recently I've got a Makita cordless die grinder clone from there.

Obviously not DeWalt and not really a clone as the real thing and this one are completely different outside and inside obviously... But it's battery compatibile
You just need to write what you need and it will appear.
Seriously I'm thinking about getting DeWalt clones to cause we have DeWalt at work but I don't really want to have more batteries than I need and Makita platform works great for me

I'm working on a genuine dewalt battery at the minute and there is no battery protection at all in the battery, its all in the tool.

This battery was used on a non genuine dewalt tool without any battery protection and it has ran the battery completely flat!

So I would not recommend using non genuine dewalt tools!

Mrs Robo uses it quite a bit and everything arrives OK, the only thing to beware of is Chinese clothe sizes are at least 2 sizes smaller than UK sizing!.

Yup , size 2x L tends to be 39 inches chest I'm 52 inch inch chest , 42 inch waist a nice loose fit T shirt /sweat shirt is 5XL

Some sites in Temu and AliExpress are now giving metric , American & imperial fitting sizes as well as their versions of S ,M , L , 1XL , 2XL etc.

There are companies in the UK that are well respected suppliers to the Model Engineering Type and DIY'ers that sell exactly the same stuff, but they've had their name printed on it, can afford to buy in bulk and sell it at a higher price.

I'm not opposed to trying items for the far east at a cheap price, you just have to accept that maybe you might waste a few beer tokens, but so generally far I've been impressed with the cost/quality ratio.

I also purchased DRO kits for my Lathe (£200.00) and Mill (£300.00) approximately, both at least half the price quoted from UK based suppliers....

And the UK shops buy them from China most of the time .

If you are prepared to delay gratification by planning ahead and wait , things from China look very attractive even if some occasionally go wrong .

We saved just over £1200 buying my wife's Robooter battery scooter direct from the makers and it arrived in less time than the people selling a more expensive less facility model here in Somerset.

It's sad because they offer delivery from UK warehouse but it either takes a week anyway or they don't have in stock at the UK warehouse.

Is that because the goods are picked from our freeport facilities , fees & tax has to be paid before the good leave the freeport facility .

That's because you paid the manufacturer direct, the UKs' reseller would have done the same thing.

It's the time the reseller takes to do the paperwork and pass on the payment that takes the extra time, plus he adds his mark up on the price to you, then he waits for the duties to be paid and the item to be delivered to him, because he's not holding any stock on the shelf.

You get what you pay for, it's how you pay and to whom you pay that make the difference these days.

With the demise of all of our decent local suppliers of engineering tools, bolts and automotive oddsnsods I now use Temu, Banggood, Ali Express and Ebay for all workshop consumables, no issues other than a bit of a time delay. Even the man in a van has retired, probably a good opening around here for someone to take his place.

Now I have a computer and know how to use to buy direct I have my own home shop/business that's alway's open when I want it and is just a short bimble from anywhere within the bungalow .

Totally agree, but if you had purchased your wifes spec scooter from a UK re-seller/dealer, you would have paid £1200.00+ more, than your actual purchase price, (as you stated above "We saved just over £1200 buying my wife's Robooter battery scooter direct from the makers and it arrived in less time than the people selling a more expensive less facility model here in Somerset).

The delivery timeline difference of the item, is the time it takes the 'Somerset Dealer' to pay the manufacturer, the manufacturer to arrange shipment and pay import duties, then ship it from the warehouse to the dealer who doesn't want to hold unsold stock, and then either you collect it or the dealer delivers it to you.

You saved money by:- by-passing the dealers profit, any PDI inspection/tests, and any hidden chargeable time (unpacking/assembly/pdi time) that would be involved by the dealer, that's why dealers generally only have basic demo models.

So yes, you saved money and time, the £1200.00 you saved is the dealers time and profit... by having it delivered to you direct instead of the dealer.

If there's any warranty claim you now have the deal with the manufacturer who is probably in the far east, not the dealer who's 10 miles down the road.

Invoking UK consumer law for an item purchased directly from the 'Far East' would be interesting.

We all have choices to what we pay for an item, the saving is the risk we are willing to take...

The above is, why people buy equipment from R-tech to cover any warranty/problems....

It would be the enforcement that would be the issue, if you didn't have Section 75 CCA to fall back on.

Difficult choice to be honest. Use it or loose it springs to mind but it's not allways that simple.

I'm very happy with all my Makita clones
Especially using them with Makita batteries and not the one you plug a little jack to charge them.
They are very acceptable for money they're ok, they work fine maybe not as powerful as the real thing but I'm pretty happy with the grinders they work very well honestly with enough power and the battery (4Ah) last a reasonable amount of time.
The impact wrenches are 100% promoted as they have a bunch of power especially the 3/4" I used it on some hydraulic hammers to loosen up 40mm threads with giant bolt heads from the screw side so the actual thread was 1 meter plus farther than the head itself.
