Is going to be the major problem in years to come when the Gov insist on electric vehicles. Infrastructure isn’t built to handle the demand of 27.2million households wanting to charge their cars every night..

I keep hearing this but I don't think it's as big of a problem as people make out

If you have a 300mile range electric car that's not much less than most petrol cars... how many of them need a full tank of petrol every night?

Plus there's are already smart chargers out there... they monitor grid frequency and adjust the charge rate to match what's available on the grid... few more years and they'll all charge like that

It is going to be tricky for some households currently have a 32amp charge point which charges the car from flat to 100% in just under 4 hours. Can charge it slower in 8 hours which would be fine overnight I’m just wanting a decent speed for two cars as we have a Tesla on order that will take more to charge than the I3. The DNO chap said it’s got all sorts of ideas for the future but no firm plans yet!

If you get 3ph you can get a Tesla Super Charger, not sure of price but a friend of ours has them at work and they'll do 80% charge in 20mins!

The big problem will be big events, festivals and alike. How do you charge a few thousand cars in the middle of a field so everyone can make there journey back home.

Not many at all but you can easily stop off as soon as you reach one.

Electric will never take off, look at Diesel. It was the new sliced bread a few years ago, now it produces more NoX than anything else. Haven’t even considered disposal of lithium batteries yet

So... you fill your tank before you get there?.... same as charging before you get there?

LiIon battery recycling is pretty simple and very efficient... also old LiIon batteries have reduced capacity but very rarely any standing losses... so old car batteries make great grid back up batteries (where size/weight doesn't matter)

3ph for cars might be nice but unless you need to rapid charge then you are doing the battery no favours. Li-ion has plenty of advantages but it is still prematurely aged by higher charge currents. Lower current charging is also generally far more efficient.

As long as you allow 3 days to get there, filling up from the garage only takes minutes

Had a big debate on Facebook, took some explaining that their isn’t currently any electric car that meets my needs so have no choice but to stick with diesel

It cost me about £2000 to get 3 phase installed in to my property from the pavement in front of my house. That basically covered digging up the pavement, supplying and installing the new cable, cable head and isolator. I then had to get my own sparky to do the rest of the work installing DB, sockets etc. The new meter was free from my electricity supplier.
