Another worthless thread aimed at the 50+ brigade

I'm largely intact (at almost 48) but feel like I've been used for target practice by successive dentists.. ony now do they decide my gums aren't what they should be, my jaw is shrinking back and may need bone grafts
Right elbow has recurrent tenosynovitis which is a bu993r if you like climbing and kayaking (or even hitting things with a hammer), I need two strengths of reading glasses (with different prescriptions for each eye, just to stop me using £3 Tesco specials) and have suspicious lumps on my right calf. Oh, and almost-permanent back pain... and mild IBS just to ruin every meal out.
My dad had a heart attack at 51 and was dead at 68; his dad died of a brain tumour at 37... so I'm not planning for a long retirement
I do, however, have hair like Father Ted

Well as long as i wont be the first under 50, both knees shot from rally driving through the desert, tendonosis in right elbow. never be 100%, left shoulder and side of neck shot, eyes screwed (too many years welding) and an MRI on Friday to see if i still have a brain lol

How the heck does that work?

Had a hernia (why do nurses always look hot when you're coming out of the anaesthetic...), can't run due to knee issues, shoulders feel like a bag of meccano (rusted) and soon my arms will need to be longer for me to read. But 44's a good age. Having kids who are 10, 8 and 2 mean I get to act like a kid, play on their toys and teach them how to build stuff.

And my dad's rebuilding three LE Velocettes (Just got the first one on the road today), he's still a little mental (until recently was into parapenting and powered parachute things) and seems to have most of his wits about him.

My father-in-law, by contrast, has convinced himself for the past 15 years that he's only got a few years to live, spends almost all day in his armchair and the rest sniping about people he doesn't like. Guess who's happiest?

hey TAITSIE goodluck mate...well after reading this thread this 51 year old is not alone then...oh forgot to mention the little fella below needs a few more nudges to wake up these days too but ive always said its an over rated pastime anyway

I am not too bad considering, so far I have had an umbilical hernia, double inguinal hernias, two broken cheek bones, broken sternum, arthritis in the hips, hands and 1 shoulder, dodgy knees, Gord, bowel polyps (now removed) slight scoliosis, heart arythmia (getting worse), sciatica occassionaly, the obligatory glasses, and my mind, well I know I have one but not sure where I left it, about 7 out of 8 cylinders still firing. One of my hands has lost some function after slicing it to the tendons last Christmas cleaning out the gutters. So all up not too bad, This is despite the fact I wake up every morning feeling like a truck has run over me, I will be 58 next April. Must take up Rugby league or Martial arts. Every day I see the sun when I open my eyes in the morning means it's a good day, the alternative ... not so good.

Glasses so thick they could be used for re-entry shields on the space shuttle...2 Knacked knees (37 years roofing) 1 ellbo joint not worth a carrot..bent fingers...2" reduced from my height..50% loss in my left ear and other aches and pains that dont go untill 9am every day and my question is who else has had a nice package of old age ware and tear thrown at them without even askin for them??? good news i still have my own teeth and hair for now

Thanks Roofman, so long as they keep patching me up I am still good, by the way forgot to mention that, I also have an enlarged prostate and heart, and also had Lithotripsy done this year to remove some kidney stones, the last Doc I saw recently also was talking about wanting to put in a pacemaker... nah, ain't going to happen, I would have to give up welding. Hence the reason I am doing up a boat so when it's done I can go out and relax and enjoy myself while I still can.
