Not yet, wasn't expecting it until Monday and wasn't 100% sure i'd be keeping it, but here we are. Need to sort out everything else yet. Helmet, consumables. Something to weld that's not an engine part I need.

Thats the problem, don't have any consumables at the moment and just a little confused as to what I should by re collets,collet bodies, cups. Could do with a short list of first time bits to get me started.

yeah, got a purple tungsten in it, didnt measure diameter. As i haven't got gas yet was wondering if I should be ordering a few other bits now. I'll try and pick up a 20l bottle on Monday.

Till you learn whats what, buy some blue tungstens or grey, they work for steel and ali. Id suggest 2.4s and a spare couple of collets. Maybe a slightly larger or smaller ceramic depending what they have supplied you. Thats the pink bit, it will have a number on it.

thats what i was worried about with the kits I've seen, would rather only buy what will get used. Is it worth getting gas lenses?

lol, yeah. MD17 was the last of the Volvos built as marine engines from the ground up. Got a little Sabb I really need to work on but I keep starting other projects.

People were tig welding long before gas lenses were all the rage. I use a stubby for everything, but Id say have a play then order a few single bits and decide what works best for you.
Clean new shiney metal will help you learn more than all these fancy widgets. Oh and a nice soft pair of gloves
Youll need some rods too.

i knew stick out and cup size are related but can't find anything that says why you'd choose a certain cup size.
Adequate gas coverage for the part your welding.
Most normal steel and alloy I do with a 7.
Stainless I go to a 8-10 just because I try to get greater coverage.
I also weld everything from 5amps to 200 with a 2.4mm tungsten.
Where most people would use a 1.6
