Just do the same as us, park on a side road of one of the main arterial roads (in our case the A38) and catch the bus, although you would have to be desperate to visit the city centre these days

Technically we live in Birmingham, about 6 miles south of the city centre, can't remember the last time we took a car in, if we have to go we will park the car for free in a side road and catch a bus.

So many memories this evening on this thread, for the last 20 years before retiring I worked in Digbeth / Bordesley Green, though no classic car to commute in; but the last bit from J3 of the M42 into Brum took longer than getting to J3 from Wantage.
I know, I should have moved house, but couldn’t bring myself to move that far North

You almost went past our house we are about a mile to left of the first big island (Becketts Island) after you exit at M42 J3.

Last time I went round Becketts Island there was a BMW on top of the roundabout wedged between two trees front and rear, and a bemused recovery driver trying to figure out how to remove it.

More a blow to not so classic car owners, cars over 40 years old are exempt, though why anyone would want to drive a car with a manual choke, no airbags or impact protection, no heated seats, no heated windows, a gear stick and an eight track is beyond me.

To add confusion, if you visit TfL

Check your Vehicle

and type in your classic car number plate, it will still show that you have to pay two charges, Congestion charge and ULEZ.

If you go to

and type in your classic number plate, it will show that you don't have to pay ULEZ.

But you still have to apply for exemption, it is not automatic.

I used to live in sunny Walthamstow. All the roads were permit parking. I had a permit. But it was only a permit to park in my road and three others. If you drove anywhere else in Walthamstow, you couldn't park because you needed a permit specific to that road.

I no longer live there.

I was born in Camden and raised in Greenwich, but now it is as foreign as Lahore or Nairobi..all my mates and family have left, so I just do't care anymore. Nuke it.

They have put another 50mph speed limit just past Port Talbot on the M4 to cut down emissions. Funny how they blame cars with the stink coming from the steel works!
And what about electric cars? Do they have to stick to the limit as well?
